Today we have the third part in the very popular feature series, WHERE THEY RACED, which you can see by CLICKING HERE, it is a documentary series that reunites the ghost tracks of Los Angeles with the cars that ran them and gets the families of the drivers, historians and experts to tell the tales that give this history a victory lap by preserving these fading memories.

Episode 3 begins at the start/finish line of the Santa Monica Road Races which ran from 1909 – 1919. Then we take a detour with special guests Don Pullen (Eddie’s son) and Huell Howser at the Corona track. And finally we finish the episode back in Santa Monica on the long Wilshire Blvd. straightaway – but we don’t get back to the start/finish… that will be in part 2 next week.

SEARCHED house falling down around buster keaton and Found this
on Kevin Reeves' blog. Turns out, it was from Buster's 1928 movie,
    "Steam
boat Bill, Jr.," released in May of that year.

And you can SEE this famous comic scene in action, at several sites.
Here are a couple from YouTube (I think quality is a little better on one).

I read that Keaton did all his own stunts, including all the crazy ones with the trains. Those are truly amazing. Some have been posted here prior. Suffered some serious injuries as a result.

    Funny as hell for sure.

Damn straight, Don. I do have to admit that my son shot a hole in his bedroom window with HIS Red Ryder replica. I scalded his little ass. Now, he shoots better at targets than I can, anymore. Way it should be: Responsibility, supervision and training.

Greyhound. They made the service sound WHOLESOME, not so much commercial!

This bottom one is my fave Greyhound ad. The railroads were still doing a good job of promoting passenger travel,
especially for leisure getaway time. But (IMO) the bus lines threw the card of cheaper tickets for the less affluent.
    Ads thanks to Luv2xlr8!

Thanks, Don. We can take the matter to PM tomorrow, as it's a politcal football
nowdays in the country, and we need not stir up anything on this vintage thread.
We can talk vintage gun pix, but just stay away from political biz. Not the place
    here.

I work construction for 35 years in Portland and the surrounding area, there were some strange thins found when redoing the streets, wooden waterlines, Asbestos water lines ,wood planks for pavement, about 6-8 feet down there is a layer of volcanic ass in some places1' thick, thunder eggs, dinosaur bones, Indian artifacts, trolley tracks, cobblestones, shanghai tunnels, cars buried to hold the soil along Marine Drive, We moved a pioneer grave site when the Ban-field was widened at about NE188 th by the Wilkes Grade School. There are places that were rerouted because of Indian Burial Grounds along Airport Way, I know of 3 burial grounds in the Ne area that look like a sea of weeds today. Just never know what your going to find.
