Any Hambers located along our route to the SALT?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by NVRRDUNN, Feb 27, 2013.

  1. My son and I are traveling solo in my coupe pulling a small utility trailer full of camping gear to Speed week this year from Eugene Oregon up I-5 to Portland, then east on I 84 along the Columbia and down to Ontario/Boise then south on 93 at Twin Falls Idaho to Wells Nevada, then on to Wendover. Camping at the Bend. Will probably leave Eugene early Thursday August 8 and stay overnight in Nyssa with my brother then head out early Friday morning to get to the Bend by about noon to get a camp spot picked out. Anyone is more than welcome to tag along with us on the highway. This will be the maiden voyage for the car on a long stretch, and for us to Speedweek. We, of course, welcome any suggestions you might have about this journey and once we're there. I heard to keep away from the canal that's near the bend....skeeters? We are coming as well prepared minimalists.

We'd like to know who some of the Hambers are along the way we could contact in case something serious breaks and we need help. If you feel more comfortable with a message to me rather than putting it here, thats fine too. Just need to compile a list we can put on the laptop we'll be bringing for our blog we'll be doing of our trip. Thanks, guys and gals. :)

More than willing to help. I'm just south of Twin Falls, not far from 93, Also have a huge yard for camping. Bill @ Dream Ride Builders

  4. I'll be coming that way from the Seattle area, but, won't be on the same path as you until we turn east just south of the Oregon border. It would be nice to compile a list of numbers for everyone traveling various routes. I'll gladly throw mine in to the ring if you want it.

Last year we drove what we thought was a "reliable modern vehicle" and the transfer case ended up grenading along the way! We limped from Boise to north of Seattle to make it home. We made it without a problem, but, the transfer case was eating itself alive for the last 100 miles.

It would be good for you to have some phone numbers in some of that sparce area along that route.

For the salt bring lots of sunscreen and water.

  6. You ask about the canal, that IS the Bend. We stopped camping there after getting rained out the last two years. If it is dry it is awesome. West of the bend on the high ground has become popular since it is rockier, the bend is mud flats.

  7. Hey Mike, what route you takin? and which car?

  8. Yea, been following that one, will be west on the high ground for sure...with really long tent stakes. did you run into scorpions there?

  9. Not being prepared is not a good idea in most things...unless its just a spontaneous thought like..........ROAD TRIP!!! :D

  10. THANKS for that offer, Bill. With any luck and a lot of prayers I will be on 93 without any stops, but if I do find my self in need and I am near you I will give ya a shout...could you PM me your contact info? thanks. ;)

I am in in Mountain Home which is right off of I84 between boise and Twin Falls..need any help or a cold beer, let me know! I am attempting to get my 54 Lincoln ready to head down to Speed week, if not, I will be going down anyway. As far as the Bend goes, I ended up right next to the canal as I got flooded out and damn near drowned in mud after a torrential downpour just 30 minutes after I setup camp! It sucked! I will camp again but on the rocky side of the road or somewhere more solid..that mud is the worst! Great times at Bonneville!
