  1. I got my front wheels back today and had to post this pic...I love the look of oxidized magnesium, but damn they look good polished! I wonder how often I will have to polish them:D

    Wow shinny Look's good!

  10. Nothing (metal wise) looks as good as polished magnesium's luster.

Second closest is the finish real rodders puts on their wheels

Back when I ran Halibrands on my '29 coupe, I had to polish them every couple of weeks throughout the summer to keep them as shinny as yours. After 5-6 years of doing that I took them off and ran steelies. A lot less work, but not near as cool.

  15. Nope...just good friends!

  16. Yeeeeeah, that'll last a week!

I give you 'till the middle of summer and you'll say "screw this"! :D

    They do look purdy though!

2 things don't last, clean black cars and polished wheels. ;)

What car is that on Don?

When you have downtime, put large garbage bag over wheels with a desicant bag inside. Saves the shine a long time. Also coat the wheels with a wheel wax, easy on, easy off and lasts longer.

Nuthin looks better than polished magnesium, but its a pain...I gave up doing them back about 1975. Dark gray kinda grows on ya! Always heard they can be clear coated?

Better than that is to buy those large vacuum bags as seen on TV an suck all the air out --The polish will last over a year.

  24. Well someone worked their ass off you better buy them dinner and not chicken dinner.

Oh and you probably better buy stock in Mothers. ;)

  25. He says no Mother's unless it is the billit. He uses Busch Aluminum Polish. Can't bag them as the car will get used...we will see how bad it really is...They used to keep them polished on the car back in the day!

  26. Wheel wax?

I agree 100% I buy Busch by the cases and everybody I have shown buys from me. Mothers is crap when it comes to magnesium! How often to repolish, depends on the weather the more damp the more often. I also am growing to like mine dark, sad thing it takes years to look good. I have them on three cars and could never keep them all polished here in Ohio!

After polishing them, clean with Laquer thinner and spray with clearcoat. I hear that there is some clear powder coat that works well too. I prefer the raw sandcast look like the Bonneville cars and old gassers.
