Like what your doing. Reminds me of my T build in the '80s. Not much money either. I remember going to swaps with maybe $20 in my pocket and score. The 32 grill and shell was priced at $15 and I dickered him down to $12.50. Also had some gifts from friends. Parts and labor. Just keep plugging along. That body is better than what I stared with. I say anybody that says they can't find a steel one just doesn't want one bad enough.

Thats cool. The 80's was awesome.I was born in 85.Pretty sweet you scored that grill for 12 bucks. Is it the car in you're avatar?

Dude, yeah i've seen worse but this body is seriously effed. There is not one spot that's not pitted.

True,i pieced this body together from 5 different people..Funny thing about it too,the 2 side panels came from one guy and the cowl from another but the cowl was the match to the side panels. It had the same exact paint, primer and bondo. The 2 guys knew each other,so its not that crazy, but still kinda cool.

YEah not afraid of the challenge. This sheet metal is tuff though..It'll be welding fine then BOOM! it explodes..burn a hole.Anyways I'll fix it up.Here's the body together.Im going to weld it all up.I'm debating on having a working door or welding it up and being a hop in.What do you think?I'm also thinking of using torque tubes for mufflers so the door wouldn't be able to open anyways..but thats not a for sure thing.

The back is just screwed in right now,but it'll get welded up too.

This stuff is kinda hard to weld.Plus i oiled some of this stuff down after i took it out of the molasses so im sure that didn't help..

Also,it was kinda windy, does the wind affect you're welds?

Yes, wind and oil both affect youre welds, try and position youre body to block the wind and wipe off the oil with some lacqer thinner. I also like to put the welder close so I can adjust the wire speed while I weld to get it dialed for the metal I am welding. The welds dont look terrible. I like youre build keep up the good work.

I hate it when everything is going great then all the shit hits at once. Great job on quitting smoking. I need to quit too.

Thanks!I got a lot of welding done today, but still needs a lot of welding.I think my goal of a roller by the weekend is wishful thinking.Im thinking of trying to get a different rear end.I don't like how the 9" is offeset.

Looking at your build reminded me of this old hot rod that use to be down in AZ.

It has a V12 Cadillac flathead I am told.

Some of the Phoenix guys will know of it.

I believe it is off the road now as the owner was ill or may have passed.

I just love it totally, I guess awesome is the word for it.

It has just got it in my book.

Glad you liked it, it may help you get a few ideas together as your mock up mad me think of of this hot rod right away.

    Even just for motivation purposes.

    Keep up the good work.

This is what I started with for $20 at an estate sale in Nov.'79 minus the grill which cost me $12.50 And chrome headlights that I didn't use. The tires were a gift from a friend. The Tornado headlight brackets are probably now worth ten times what I paid for the it all. Somebody had started it and I wish I had asked for details on who it was.

The second picture was taken a couple of months ago.

Your probably not going after the Kookie Kar style but I'm sure you'll put together something Kool.

    Hey Gary,

I hate to jump Pat's thread, but I never noticed the headers on your car before. Are they hollowed out Glasspacks? It looks like I might end up with a T-bucket I built for a guy that I have to de-uglify...

I know what you mean about jumping the thread. I was reluctant to post the pictures but I thought it might give him some inspiration.

The header collectors are WWII shell casings. Your pretty observant nobody else has asked.

Shit I don't know what happened to that picture. Kinda flattened out.

I really like you're truck. The more i look at it,the more i like the steering wheel straight up.IS that why its called a cookie car?Theres a guy buy my house(older guy) that has almost the same truck as you.But his is fiberglass.Same color too.

Naw, it called a Kookie car 'cause it is sorta the same assemblage of stuff as the first T-bucket's later version that was on a show called "77 Sunset strip" in the late fifties and early sixties. The character that drove was Ed "Cookie" Burns. Gary's car is a little tamer paint and body wise, but the engine, stance and general attitude is the same as the original car.

Your project is coming along really well.......keep at it. :)

Someone mentioned that in post number 1 your wishbones were upside down. Not to my eyes, that is the way they go, with the dropped down part on the bottom. I would like to see a better picture, but that is the way I have always done them.

Hey thanks!Yeah i try to do something everyday.

Its funny,i thought they were upside down too.I originally had them flipped the other way and i couldn't figure out why my axle was leaning so far forward, then my neighbor came over and was like "youre bones are upside down".So yes they are correct now.But another guy came over and said they were upside down too..i guess its a common mistake.
