Lowering Blocks, longer Shackles, removing a leaf or 2, cutting coils, heating coils. Z'ing the frame. BB
Reverse eyes on Main Leaf......... I bought new springs for safety... lowered 1" and the eyes reversed from: http://www.eatonsprings.com/ There was a thread earlier on Hamb http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=90824&highlight=spring+eye
Thanks guys, that was the same stuff I had in my head, but just wanted to see if there was anything special. Ran Eaton 3" drops on the front of my Unibody, great customer service and product, just pricey. Have two sets of factory springs, so I might try to put together a good set of leaves out of them and try reversing the eyes myself. Maybe a small c-notch on the frame to keep from bottoming out. Trying to get away from cutting the floor out or putting air bags.
Thank you all for the nice comments about my almost finished custom,I can`t wait to drive it but the snow must go...Until then it is a trailer queen... Here`s two more shots for you and to give this awesome thread a bump.BTW,the hubcaps are 1949 Lincoln,I`m surprised they don`t show more often on customs. They look great on early customs too and fit the idea of having more high end car parts on a cheaper make. And they are not as pricy as the Sombreros...
Awesome! It's amazing what shiny new paint and tall whitewalls can do to the character of the car, too. totally diggin it
I've always loved those hubcaps as well. The early '50s Chrysler Imperial caps are very similar (see my car) but not quite as smooth and curvy. Do the Merc caps fit on most wheels, or do you need Mercury wheels?
Beautiful styling Dave, that is one glamorous ride. One of my fave's on the H.A.M.B for sure. Are the '49 Lincoln caps 15" or 16" ?

Andreas..how could i miss this! your car looks stunning, with or without paint... cant wait to see it this summer! -palle
What a great thread! I love seeing all the pictures of the period correct customs. This is what I am wanting to do to my '53 Special. The money flow is the only hold up, have to finish the garage so I can work on the car. I noticed that there are not two tone cars, is that not acceptable for this period? When did scallops come into popularity? My car came painted as it is and will stay that way until I have time and money do paint it. I will finish the running gear, chop the top and do the interior before the rest of the body and chrome work gets done. This gives great ideas and motivation!
