Here's where I'm at with my 46 I kind of want to raise the front about half an inch or an inch.... what do you think?
Here's my contribution. It's a work in progress. I know the grille takes it out of the 52 range, but that's about the newest thing on it. It's flathead powered and as traditional as it can get. Hoping to start a build thread if you all are interested.
I really like how you continued the line of the trim right through the fence. Just kidding. I really like your Chevy. In my opinion if you're going to tweak the stance by a half an inch or so you could drop the rear rather than raising the front, but either way that car looks bitchin'. Curt
lookin good Aaron! Raising the front to the top of the whitewall would be killer! It would give it a much earlier look and a nice tail dragger stance.
Up in the front an inch to see all the white wall and down half an inch in the back me thinks. cheers darren
Fresh out the shop of David Martinez is this Palle Johansen next project. Inspired by George Barris his personal Caddy with the Bill Gaylord top but once back home in Denmark there will be a lot more neat early Custom Car touches. And the way it looks now nothing will be newer than 1948... I guess Palle will be doing a new thread on this wonderful classic custom soon. I photoshopped this image a bit, cleaning the background, lower it a bit more in the back (to how it will actually sit later on) and "paint" the primer spots. Photos by David Martinez
Thanks for all the input guys! And thanks for the photoshop Rik. I popped on one of my 'wheel covers' this morning and jacked up the front about an inch this morning. I couldnt get a full profile, but I think I like it. Also, that red Cadillac is stunning..... finally a carson top that actually looks right!
Sled, im looking forward to see you at OSW this summer..... Oh fun that the Dodge will be at Elmia.... Thanks Christer. Palle, wow nice car.......and i know you will make it even better hope to see it some day, soon
Looks good And about the red Cadillac......what can be wrong: Martinez,Palle and Rik.....they know what they are doing!
thanks for the nice words about my Caddy. Like Rik says..i will tell you more when it hit the roads in Denmark! i do have lots of plans, and it will be a driving project..so you will see it later this year Andreas! have a nice weekend everyone, and keep those Kustoms coming! -Palle
Aaron, Easy fix.. Those front springs are stock for the front end in it. Not cut. You could do what the engineers did in the late 70's and early 80's for GM. They added radial tire "chunks" or Donuts in the spring pockets top and bottom. Called it "radial tuned" suspension. The trans ams that had this were the WS6's and the coils were shorter to keep the ride height the same as the other cars.....I know the frontend ain't a GM part and not traditional for this board either, but it would keep the ride the same and even reduce the vibrations and get you the height you want. Just a thought.
51streamliner- Much better with full caps and the frontend higher, a kustom looks good with a big whitewall hugging the wheelwell arch. Drop the rear 2"? What are your thoughts on glass color for a kustom? Looking at green or smoked green right now for a 48 ford pickup
If you're aiming for period-correct it should be clear glass, not tinted. My '53 Chevy came from the factory with green-tinted glass so it did exist but I have never seen a photo of a late-40s or early '50s kustom with anything but clear glass. And they didn't have smoke tint glass then.
Finally the Caddy arrived yesterday! i found a huge spider web from a black widow spider on the dash board..so i decided to have it bug bombed before driving! i hate those bastards! but heres a picture from today! -palle
Palle, that Caddy is truly awesome. Superb car. Some R*t rodders would pay good money to have spiders webs on their dashboard you know. Paul.
