Vintage shots from days gone by!

I wish we knew more about Blue Lena...I was told she was a 1965 Bentley S-3 Continental Flying Spur. Keef didn't refer musch about her in his book. Does he still have 'er ???

 

TuckerFan, you are right. I'd taken the white one at right to be a
Merc Comet, but that does seem to be a Ford crest on the trunklid! The one with the round tail lights gone I took for a Fairlane or maybe Gallaxy. Is that a Falcon too?

I'm not going to repost the "spot the Corvair", but I'd like to hear from you "photo"experts out there.
How big could you blow up that image without loosing clarity? I've got a blank wall in my living room, and say, a 24"X 36" would be cool as a print all framed up.

Lower left....third car from the bottom. Upper left....almost out of the photo. Both Falcons are white.

 

I'm not sure you're seeing either one of them. There is what I think is a 1961 Comet in the photo as well but I see at least two Falcons

 

I'm not seing one in the upper left corner. If there is then there are three.

 

The way the rear bumper on this white four door dips below the taillight pretty much gives it away, to me...

Where is the third Falcon?

'28-'29 pickups and standard bodies did not have a reveal on the cowl/hood. Only the Briggs/Murray bodies had a reveal. That looks like a '30-'31 cab with earlier fenders. It also looks like it has '30-'31 19" wheels. Somewhere I have seen a pickup with the rounded '30 cab and a '29 cowl.

NICE color ad, apparently moving the '42 Mercs that were being built, what with the imminent
government stop order of Feb. '42 so factories could be shifted to war production. Pictured by
the factory illustrator is a club convertible. Very few of the P-40-Bs in the backdrop are still a-
round! For the early year, this seems fanciful, even in an advertising sense. If those ladies could drive that close to fighters, they must have been officers' privileged wives and well known to base/field personnel. Artwork thanks to luv2xlr8!

 

Good eye on finding a third Falcon.

There are three 55 Chevys in the photo but can anyone spot the second 57 Chevy?

 

Two falcons and a comet and can anyone spot the 55/6 merc.

 

Tail light looks too small for a falcon and I thought it was a 63 Chevy wagon.

 

Wow! The SWI quiz continues! I do think the second '57 Chevy (minus most tail trim) is white and at upper right. I think I see
the gas fill on its left.

 

Okay, as we continue to ID all of those, here's a (maybe) obvious quiz:

What model year PONTIAC had the FIRST Pontiac V-8?

If you say it's a trick question, well, not really. But, the obvious answer(s) may all be wrong.

 

The blue wagon IS a Chevy. The white car to the LEFT of it is a Falcon. And as stated, there are three Falcons. Still don't see the second '57 Chevy....I DO see a '56 at the upper right under the upside-down Corvair.

 

Nope. Second one is right at the end of the sideways one's drivers side tail fin. Upper right is a 56.-MIKE

You guys are good ! There wasn't much of the second 57 Chevy to see and it is in a spot that most people would not be looking.

 

Dodger, you're good. Where the issue gets complcated is that before '32, the few Pontiacs with V-8s used the short-lived (but POWERFUL) Oakland V-8. For '32, the Pontiacs offered a mostly similar engine (lots of Oakland parts), but the BLOCK was recast to change weight distribution. So from a technical standpoint, it was a truly "Pontiac" V-8.

In '33, Oakland was long gone, and Pontiac's first straight eight debuted to compliment their six.

If I hadn't been fair and said up front it was a trick Q, lots of car guys would have said (of course) 1955.

Not a '32, as those are VERY rare hood ornaments,
but '32swere similar but WAY more beautiful.

1932 Pontiac They used virtually the same V-8 that Pontiac's parent division, Oakland, used in 1931 (Oakland's last year).

 

the second 57 chevy is behind the obvious one in the lower right corner. (see the taillight?)
There may be a fourth 55 chevy above the 59 ford front end and 62? Pontiac rear end. I see the front bumper of the 55.

That is a 56 chevy in the top right, note the round taillight.

 

It's hard to take the sign serious when it looks like a 3rd grade class project.

Very true. The key words are "virtually the same." When a '32 Pontiac V-8 was torn down to settle the mystery, lots of Oakland crests were found on parts, including the flat crank. The one-piece BLOCK, however, had been recast to redistribute weight. So, it was a "Pontiac" V-8 for '32.

[BTW, the Oakland bore some resemblance to the V-8 used in the Viking. Not really important here.]
