  1. I just got my 5.50-16 Coker Classic tires for my '32. I was happy until I read the DOT code. The date of manufacture was the 30th week of 2009. That's right, have been sitting in a Coker warehouse for 3 1/2 years. The "customer service" guy says if I send them back they will refund my money. Of course, Coker will not pay for the shipping. Coker wins again.
I would suggest that anybody buying from Coker ask about the age of the tires before buying.

  2. They haven't been exposed to the weather,,they haven't been mounted or driven so there is absolutely nothing wrong with them! HRP

  4. In WA state tire dealers will not mount or repair a tire more than ten years old.

    They should be ok

  6. I thought the Cokers were recaps? Am I thinking of another brand?

As for what Tinbender said, yup, I'm starting to run in to that more and more. 10yrs old and many places won't touch them.

I would send them back. Tires start to deteriorate the second they leave the mould. Depending on how they were stored you are not supposed to use a tire over 5 years old. Now with that said, we all do, and most of the time have no problems. But when you buy a new tire and pay full price, it should not be over 12 months old at the most.

  8. Recaps,,are you joking? HRP

  9. As much sitting as vintage vehicles do i would want mine "fresh" as possible also considering what they cost! Another reason to be vigilant and ask questions when purchasing any tires, educate yourself! Another thing to be aware of at the swapmeet on buying used tires!

I wouldn't buy a can of beans that has been sitting on a shelf for 3 1/2 years.

The Coker guys are on the HAMB, I'd direct their attention to this thread.

  14. I wouldnt worry about them as long as they have been stored properly in their warehouse you should be fine.

And that's why we love the HAMB. Everyone's accessible here on the same playing field.

  17. Must have been thinking of the Diamondback radials. Didn't notice the bias measurement. In that case, for what you spend just to mention the Coker name, yes, I can understand his anger.

Part of the issue an outfit like Coker faces is that we haven't yet got to the point that you can mould a single tire, or set of tires, to order. So you've got to run enough of a particular size at a time to make it economically viable.

I personally would run them, though I'd still be a bit grumpy about not having been told...

  19. I totally agree,,It ain't like your dealing with a fast food chain like McDonald's and they make them when you place your order. HRP

  20. But on the other hand, he didn't pay a happy meal price. He should have been told and they should have been discounted or something. When you pay for the best you have a right to expect the best.

Diamondbacks aren't recaps, either. They take a new tire and put the wide white wall on it. As far as I know, Towel City sells slicks that are recaps. Not sure about the Hurst slicks.

The Coker tires -- heck, I probably wouldn't have even looked at the date. Never thought about looking when I've bought tires from them. I bet they'll be just fine.

It does make me wonder how old some of the tires are that guys are running.
If you only put a couple thousand miles a year on your car, tires could 'last' quite a long time and should probably be replaced well before the tread is worn down.

Did you check the tires you have now, when you first bought them? I doubt it. 3 1/2 years is NOTHING for a tire. It's not a loaf bread, for Christs sake. Mount the damn things and post some pics.

Run them. Geeezzz, what a bunch of girls. If you all were honest and checked the tire dates on hot rods you've owned for years, most tires would be over the limit.

  26. Considering the price of tires for a everyday vehicle I don't feel like they are that expensive. Especially with that alliance discount. I just dropped 900.00 for no big deal truck tires. Coker has all my business

WRONG, Tires start to deteriorate after 6 years, this is an insurance co, Assn. study after having to pay out a law suit stemming from a blow out on a new sold, 8 year old tire. So now the O.P. tires have a legal 2 1/2 year life to be used on the road. Guess why the manufactures have to put on a date code?????????????:(:(
