I picked up this quick change the other day. It's been busted and repaired and it was free so I wasn't going to complain. What the heck is it?? The only markings on it are d-3023 on the main housing and D-3024 and "top" stamped on the rear cover There are no other markings on it whatsoever. Any clues?? Wow. I'm not a quick change guy. I know the basics. I've never even heard of Pat Warren. How can you tell that it's one of his? Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
My Warren QC has the exact same rear cover shape, except it says Pat Warren on the bulges for the bearings.
Thanks!! I've been searching and can't seem to find any info on Pat Warren. Can you point me in the right direction or fill me in on what you know?
I'd say Pat Warren, also. I only have a couple of good pictures of a Warren. If you zoom in on the picture of the rear cover you can see the same numbering system. I believe that this is a Model A as it has no pinion nose support bearing. Yours has the bearing and a much longer lower shaft. That may have been a problem as you can see that is where it was broken and repaired. Something else I noticed: The nose bearing is a roller not a ball. It looks like it might be an original Ford type instead of the more common metric ones used today.
What a great looking rear end you have!... err, that didn't come out quite right Nice score 235- is that going in the Chevy???
Yeah. If it doesn't leave my possession it will go on the 28 Chevy lakes roadster. I need to get the repair checked out by someone who knows quick changes and aluminum repairs.
Send it to me. If it's junk, I'll give you s**** price. If not, I'll fix it for you. Looks pretty rugh from here!
Well, when I started this thread I had absolutely no intention of selling this QC but along came a guy and a car and I couldn't say no. The Pat Warren v8 QC is going to Mr Pat Ganahl. He and Marty Strode contacted me and we made a deal. The QC will be a part of a clone of the Spalding Bros Track Roadster also known as the Spalding Special. I'm thrilled to be a small part of this special build. Glad my quick change is going to be behind a Wayne powered inliner!!!
Pete, It's good to hear that you and Pat were able to make a deal. Pat and I have been planning to build this car for a while, I procured a nice metal body, not far from me. The Pat Warren rear end was an important part, that we were hoping to find. I will be building the ch***is, mounting the body and matching the suspension and steering, as close as possible to the original. Maybe we will post a build thread when we get started. We are in need of some "open tube" side plates for a V/8 rearend. For those unfamiliar with the "Spaulding Special", here are some pics, thanks again for your help.
Glad to see that this is going to a good home. If Pat and Marty are building it, it will be right. As much as I would have liked to build it, I bow to the 'Master(s)'.
Bruce, I was telling Pat about the book you are working on, I think that I convinced him, "you" are the "master". We may need to lean on you for some parts and info, I will be in touch!
Cool. If Marty Strode builds it it's sure to be a winner. Go Marty. And yes please do a build thread.
