400grit is what i used to prep my primer, and 600grit is what I used between coats. If you use 400 or 600 its going to become frustrating. Use something rougher like 220 to remove that paint and then sand it with 400 or 600. Use a dual action sander

I'm not removing anything besides the crap flat black that was sprayed over the fading original paint.

After I get it back to there, I'm planning on sealing it up and leaving it alone. 220 would destroy what's left of the original paint.

    Make sense?

The Easy Off didn't mess up anything. It loosened up the Crap paint and didn't touch the good paint under it.

That little peach is now cruising the street of merry ole England. He is really enjoying it.

Try the razor blade scraper. It takes the paint off about as fast as anything and no chemicals.

Friend of mine stripped a cheap paint job off a VW by making his own scrapers out of butter knives, bent to the right curve and sharpened. He could peel off a strip 3" wide and 3 feet long in seconds.

80 grit on an 8" grinder "carefully" and then get it blasted by someone who knows what their doing. Epoxy prime with dp then k38 and go from there. All depends what you got and what you want. Loaded question/loaded answer and still vauge

I've done this, stripped a couple of paint jobs off the original paint with a grinder. It takes a lot of practice and a delicate touch and you are still apt to leave a few scratches. Works good if you are going to sand the car down and repaint anyway.

  9. Would you guys suggest using a 110 Volt DeWalt Handheld Orbital Sander with 120 or 200 grit pads to strip paint to bare metal and using 600 to 800 in between coats of paint? Seeing how I am working on my first car i would like to at least make a viable attempt at doing the job right. Thanks for any directions. Adam
