Hey, if you or your club wants to make a trophy and pick the winner, have at it! I think it's a great idea and will be happy to do it.

    I may never drive a golf-cart again! ;)

  3. Or ride with a Sock Fucker driving one!

  4. Since you have put out an invite to the F.A.S.T. crowd for this event, I hope the track officials will be cool with any F.A.S.T. cars or "pure stockers" that run a little quicker than NHRA normally approves of. We have a couple of stockers that regularly dip into the 11 teens on reproduction bias plys, and a few "large cube" stock appearing cars that run a lot quicker, so I hope that won't upset any apple carts.

Dudek's Road Runner and Lane Carey's Mustang have hit 9.90s on bias ply tires... they've both got cages and the last I heard Dudek at least was going to put a parachute on the back of his car to meet the rules.

I would THINK that if they've got cages, parachutes and harnesses, and aren't running slicks, they should pass muster.
They would know better than me though, since they've been to NHRA tracks with their cars before.

Had a meeting this week with the City of Commerce Police Department about the cruise-in Saturday night... They're amazingly receptive to the whole thing!
The city council and downtown business authority were behind the whole thing, and the meeting with the police was to bring them into the fold, so to speak.

To say they're enthusiastic about the event is an understatement... at one point, they were talking about setting up a burn-out box in an unused parking lot for us!
As much as it pains me to say this, I declined that particular offer--insurance and liability would have been a bitch.
But, we might be able to pull that off for next year!
They're mindset is the same as mine--we want to establish the show this year, and get some legs under it and have it huge next year.
You gotta love a city that's not only open to working with you for a cruise-in, but they're already looking down the track for next year.
And it's a beautiful thing with the police say "This is going to be fun. Everyone is going to have a good time, and we'll keep a low profile and will be there just to keep everyone safe."

Friday Night, May 10, 6-10pm: Cruisin' Commerce.
Saturday, May 11, The Gear Jam.

The city of Wentzville MO used to do that when Mid America Raceway was doing their Nostalgia Drags. They'd let race cars drive through town too. It was a big deal.

  8. Cool. Working hard on the digger to have it ready.

  9. So we are cleared to drive the digger down Main Street?

I'm interested & might attend (probably just the show portion). I consider the greater Atlanta area my hometown.

I've been to your web site now. My wheels/tires are Centerlines/Quick Time Pros and my chassis is tube.

But it is a real steel body & mechanical Hilborn.

Sounds like a killer time Brad, may just have to get a room that night with all the action going on.

    Yes!
There is definitely going to be a Back Up Girl contest!
Rich Venza and I will be talking to work out the details, since it's his idea, and he's got a FB page dedicated to BUGs.
    http://www.facebook.com/pages/Drag-Racing-Back-Up-Girls/144226398980111

Here's what he posted there about it:

"I am sponsoring the Back Up Girl contest with prizes for the top 3 BUGS. This will not be a beauty contest, or a competition for who can wear the smallest outfit!

My criteria will be who does the best job backing up their race car, place it in the lights and entertain the fans.

If there are BUG's who would like to participate but do not have a race car to work with, I'm sure we can find a racer for you to work with."

  26. So how's the BUG Contest going to work? Is RV just going to observe the day's events and then name the crew at the end of the day? Basically the races are going to carry on as normal then whenever a chick backs you up you will be judged on bug?

If necessary, I might be down for making a trophy. (I'm not a club)

I've put this event on a few other hot rod sites. Is the word getting out?

Those pics above are not me driving. I've never even done a burn out with it. (I'm a waxer ie drive it like you bought it :D)

    (ttt)
