Dog, I'm guessing that's Rod Saboury's '63? The one with Rod 63 license plate?

Don't know if it has anything to do with it but "Old Reliable" was a catchphrase or slogan for John Smith Chevrolet in Atlanta years ago.....?

Yup, he had a bunch of Mopars, then switched to Chevies. Tuned for Grumpy.

Think I got that from Drag Cars in Motion thread. Can't find the other angle I thought I had. Love that car!! If you haven't checked out that thread yet, go to the store, stock up, then jump in!

Not Clearspot but from what I've read the car was so squirrelly that Strickler refused to allow it to be sold at the end of the season, fearing that someone would get killed in it. Instead, the team stripped the drivetrain and some other parts, then brought it out behind the dealer lot and burned it.

Baron, that picture is 1967 and both cars were sponsored by Midwest. The red car is Gianinos with an injected small block and the black car was of course an injected 427. I recently spoke to the prior owner of the black car. That was Ron Reader and he originally had a 421 Pontiac in the car. The pics of it with the Pontiac are in the Woodward book. The Pontiacs were built by George Delorean. Both cars ended up winning at Indy and even the engine out of the black car was put in Kanners cars when he won at Indy. Two of my favorite Vettes. Watched them run and they had a real effect on me owning Vettes today. Here is another pic of the black car. In 1968 the car was sold and they switched the name to Prontito. Great running Vettes both of them.-Jim

Thanks for the info and the picture Jim. It is just one of those cars that really gets my attention. Love the stance, injection, the wheels/tires, and lack of rear bumper(s).

What happened to the post about a buddy that got banned from the HAMB for posting early vette racers, can't remember who posted it.

Here's one that a guy has stashed away in a garage here in town... he bought it back in the late 80's and bracket raced it.

It hasn't seen the light of day for quite some time... real shame.

Ernie Ball from Springfield IL painted it back in the late 60's, it still has AHRA Record Holder lettered on the front fenders.
The car used to have Halibrands
