Hello there all; new to the forums but this looked like a great place to ask a few questions. I want to get a t bucket body and pickup box to make my new build. Is there any newer pickup chassis that I could nearly bolt this on to? I know there probably will be no exact fits but I was hoping something to bolt it onto a chassis with the least amount of modifications. Not really particular to a certain year, make or model but would love a V8 with a carb. Any tips for me guys? I'm good with cutting the frame to make it shorter but really don't want to have to cut it and make it thinner because that starts to get out of my skill set and will make the costs skyrocket. What chassis can I use guys?

Nothing that will ever look right

  3. No,,your ether going to have to buy or build a chassis.

    BTW,,a introduction is advisable. HRP

  4. Over here in the UK people have put T Bucket bodies (particularly Modified style bodies) on the unaltered chassis of small Fords - like the Popular and Prefect. Works well...

Like everybody said it just will not work. Wintec, Speedway both sell everything you need to build a T.

Postal jeep, Suzuki Samarai about as close as you'd get, wont look great, but cheap.

  7. Will be ugly as Hell. Unfinished T Bucket projects are cheap. That would be a much better way to do it.

There isn't anything you're gonna "nearly" bolt on to....realise that if you want to build a car, you're gonna have to have some money, have some tools and have some place to work. There's only one way to build a T bucket, lots of variations on that theme, but still basically only one way. Research what you need, ask questions, plan on taking three times as long as estimated, plan on spending twice what you had planned and get on with it. Keep in touch and ask lots of stupid questions till you get it right, just like the rest of us.

  9. i suggest a Chevy S-10 or Ford ranger chassis, either will be an almost bolt up and easy to do

a few turns of the wrenches and you will have a cool hot rod all your friends will envy

  10. Get Chester's book on "How to build a T Bucket for $3000." Might cost a little more than that now, but lots of ideas to save $$$ in there.

Thanks for the insight; so will the S10 or ranger chassis fit or does anyone know the dimensions of it? I would love to get a custom made frame but I figured with the frame and suspension and so on it would add up very fast and unfortunately with a wedding coming I just cant swing it at this time. In a perfect world I would get that chassis and a flathead but we all know whats just not the case... so back to the point I suppose will the s10 or ranger work?

Thanks for all the help guys (or/and gals)

No man, he was being sarchastic. Someone up the line nailed it when they said unfinished "T" buckets are all over the place, and cheap. That would really be the way to get into one and get going with out spending a fortune. PLEASE give up on the idea of mounting a "T" body on a late chassis, 'cause no matter how you do it it will be just as much work and money as doing it correctly, and it will have the extra added bonus of being unsellably butt ugly. I don't mean to be an ass or a dream buster, just a realist.

Read the rules, do an intro in that section first.

A T chassis is very simple,,,,,adapting any thing else(other than maybe Model-A) will be more work and you will end up with something that you will never be proud of or be able to sell.

Wait til you can do it right and do it one small piece at a time as budget allows

  19. i really am serious about the S-10/ranger frame swap. i used to be against it , but so many people keep asking about it thinking they will have a cheap/easy/quick hot rod i've decided to switch sides. why fight it? join in!

in fact , i'm in the process of putting my `28 tudor body on my old `95 S-10 chassis right now...should be a big improvement! and since i will have a model A chassis and a S-10 body left over those two will probably end up together. i can't wait to see how they turn out

I think I will join you with putting my 55 Ford convertible on a ranger chassis and leave the 4 cylinder motor for gas mileage.

my T bucket is on a model A frame. that's about as newer as i think you should go. maybe 32. but i wouldn't go any newer. unless it's a 33-34. anything in the 30's, wait, a 40 is the same as a 35. fuck it, i think you should just paint the s10 black primer with red wheels and drive it instead.

  22. You absolutely cannot put a late chassis under any "small fendered" hot rod and, especially on any fenderless ride. You end up with a hideous, bucktoothed abortion. The radiator ends up out in front of the tires and just looks stupid as hell. The suspension is ugly and nothing you do will pretty it up. The frames are ugly also and no amount of paint or bondo will cure it. If you decide to build it anyway, be prepared for a lot of flak, laughter and being generally shunned by the big guys

My bucket has a Nova front clip and built my frame to the back . It isnt perfect or terribly pretty but is durable on the rougher roads up here .It is not purist but it actually works very well. I widened the body to fit the frame. Now that i have been there i would not be afraid to even narrow a nova style clip to fit want I want re frame width.
I still have the original a arms but have recently been looking at some of the tubular stuff which would give it a different look
Do what you want but a s10 frame may be a tough build(kind of like a chevelle style frame) tought to hide some of the stuff
