I came in to work this morning a little tired from the weekend. It was a long couple of days but I was lucky enough to meet a lot of guys who have been following the Sedan on the HAMB. Many had never posted but all had great comments. All of you have been so gracious to me, my wife and my children that I just want to say thanks again.

The work is not done on the Sedan. We cut a few corners to make the show and now it is back to work albeit at a more relaxed pace. We only wired it enough to start and drive. Now we have to finish the charging system and lights. I misplaced the orange tail light and put a stainless one on it. I need to locate a SCTA sticker for the windshield. Any help with locating a sticker would be appreciated. I also need to prime the insert again as we riveted the roof on after it was primed(even though I like the look of the rivets). I also want to find a better looking coil or try to have new mallory stickers made. I'll probably be adding to the list as my memory ramps up.

I also want to thank all of you for the kind comments. Especially Kiwi Kev who is absolutely correct about having a positive at***ude. It's not always easy.

Many of you think that your contributions were minimal or insignificant. You couldn't be more wrong. ALL of you were an important piece of the "puzzle". No puzzle is complete until even the smallest piece is put in place.

Oh ****! There I go trying to be a philosopher again.

As the Sedan travels to different events or just cruising around town, please feel free to come up and introduce yourself. Meeting many of you was the best part of the show!

    Thanks again!

If what you need is a Mallory 28675 coil I should have a NOS in a box, PM me your address. Any drag strip runs scheduled for the sedan?

Only on the HAMB do things happen that quickly. That is exactly what I need! PM on the way.

Great job on the sedan! Hope to catch it in person sometime.

  9. Rick, pm me you address and I'll send you a large SCTA water slide decal for the windshield, it's an old one I've had for about 50 years.
I dug out the Nov 82 issue of Hot Rod on the weekend and noticed you did have the SCTA decal on the original car, you should have this one I have.

    Keith-
Thank you for your generosity. I know it is hard to part with things that we have owned for so long. I'll PM you my address.
    Thanks!
    Rick

I also want to let everyone know that I want everyone to be able to see the Sedan in person and Jan and I are planning on taking some trips this summer and taking the Sedan with us. I know I will get flack, but my back and ears need a more comfortable ride than I did 30 years ago. Soooo we will be towing to the different cities and driving to the events.

One of those builds where I was somewhat bummed to live in "fly over" country. It's been a fun thread to watch.

I had fun sending the picture of the placard to a few of my hot rod buds!

Hoping to catch you somewhere in the MidWest!

  14. I too bought a T shirt at Pomona a couple years ago from you... you're a stand up nice dude, very approachable! Some guys aren't, and that's a shame.

Anyway... I rember seeing the original car when I was a kid... so it was a real treat to see it in person last weekend!

    Rod on,

    Steves32-
Does this mean I have to put you on the new placard?!?!?

SamIyam- Through the years Jan and I have been "invisible" to people we know very well but because there were "cooler/more important" people around we didn't exist at that moment. This happens in the car culture, the political arena and in every other group in our society. Our philosophy in life is to treat everybody like family.

If you remember the problem I had with the carb and removal of the gaskets then you will not be surprised that there was some debris floating around the p***ages and one gremlin came loose and stuck in the primary needle and seat. Last night the gremlin got removed and the motor is running smooth. It never did run smooth from the moment we started but with the show deadline, there wasn't time for fine tuning. I drove it in and out anyway. I just wouldn't have felt right pushing it.

I think there is a trick to installing an old water slide decal without it cracking into a million pieces. Maybe someone can post this and it will save your decal.

I may have a few original "as featured in Hot Rod magazine" water slide decals... Did you have one on the car after the original cover shot?

    Steve-
Keith is sending one. The Sedan always had one on it. Fuzzy Knight dropped of a peel and stick one but I think we need a water slide decal.
    Thanks for the offer.

I spent the day yesterday at a photo shoot for a French magazine called American Muscle. I never realized how much time it takes to shoot a few pictures. I guess it is just one of those things that we don't remember. Pete reminded me that the Hot Rod shoot took from daylight to almost midnight and that was to end up with one usable picture. The pictures should be interesting and I will post them when they are available.

    Steve-
It is for the windshield. If you look at the original article of the Sedan, You can see the size in several of the pictures.
    Thanks,

The onlt trick I remember was to shoot a coat or two of spray can clear paint over the decal before soaking to help keep it all together.

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]This is Sam Lytle, I don't know if you remember me but I was with my buddy at fathers day a couple years ago and we were driving his 34 5 window back to Washington state. I am really enjoying reading and following your thread on here. That sedan of yours is a huge inspiration to the one I'm building right now. I just wanted to thank you for redoing one of my favorite real hot rods.

I really enjoyed talking to you at the fathers day swap. You told some great stories about hot rodding and having fun. You know it was really neat to finally meet and talk to someone you read about in mags and they are just down to earth cool guys, not all high up on their horses. I hope I can get my car down there sometime soon and get a photo of it with the E&B sedan.

    Thanks!

    Sam-
You and your buddy are everything that is right about the future of this hobby. You both are not afraid to take on a project and make it happen. I look forward to the day when I see one of your Hot Rods in a magazine or on the cover. Most of the cover stuff is just luck. Being in a magazine is skill and the willingness to work! You seem to have both.
    Hope to see you again,
    Rick

    Steve (5w32)-
I guess I was thinking of something else. The Sedan never had one of those decals on it. Thanks anyway.
    Rick

    Steves32-
I didn't understand your post but Pete explained it to me. We typically drive our cars everywhere. We drove it to OCIR when we raced it but did tow it to Fremont. It wasn't practical driving there with the 4.57 rear gears. The same gears that are in it now. Buzzing the motor at 4500 for a 6 hour drive just doesn't make sense to me. When Pete drove long distances we put a 3 series gear in it. Thanks for the education.
