I used a No limit Eng front clip. Got the rack, disc brakes and shock wave coil overs air springs. Rides great, instal was easy, just some minor fitting and added bracing for my own sanity. I was able to use the stock colom as well. I would up grade to the long travel ball joints, the stock blow up when ya drop it to the floor. I 4 linked the rear, with a bag and shock. Ya gotta notch it to get it on the ground, and watch your tail pipes. I used air ride tech stuff but if I were to do again I would use Air Lift, just better stuff, I would also use the bigger Vi Air pumps rather that the 5hp firestones I have now. Best advice with bags, keep spare parts, lines, fittings etc just in case. And on your tank have a shrader valve welded in so you can fill the tank with a compressor if you ever loose your pumps. Also have a female plug for an air hose so you have on board air. Just my 2 bits
Started working on the binders today, also made a cover for the coloum.Waiting for the u-joints before the final cut on the coloum
Brakes are all in steering done and it actully works! Sanded and prepped the front end so I can put the new motor in soon. Got the new gas tank in so I guess its time for some plumbing
Your chop turned out great. Nice and sutle. I've seen some that are chopped too much and end up looking like a cartoon car. I also think your tail lights are comming along nicely. I really like the extra red spear. Nothing like a little rear lighting to help to be seen. Doc
There has been a bit of progress, started the exhaust, put another 2"s of block in the rear, made a tappered cup on the steering wheel(59 Impala) didn't like how it was so stubby. I still need the back about 2"s lower, the front is perfect with full sys travel and the steering works great. I hate this chassis work chit! I want back on the body and the fun stuff
Oh ya I finally got rid of those flamed valve covers, man I hated those! The new ones look so much better
It looks as though I am going to have to cut the tunnel and rear floors to do a C-notch in the frame. I know a bunch of you have done this and it really isn't that big of a deal but what I am wondering is can you still use the stock seat frames or do they need a bunch of mods to make them work? Do I need to re-arch the centers? Any pics of doing the notch without cutting the whole trunk out and how the seats worked would be great. I have done a search found nothing, maybe wrong key words no sure. I do need about 3"s more tunnell and about 4"s over the rear end.
Cosmic12, Reading how you installed a rack and pinion system in your 1952 Chevy and would like to get some information from you. What model and year car did you get the unit out of? Looking at your brake and want to know about our braking system.D
Mid 80's Chevy Celebrity for the rack, they are they same in all the GMs of that body, Ponti/Buick/ it just needs to be rear steer (behind sys). The brakes are GM 11" rotors that were used on almost every full size GM for years with matching calipers.
I have been working on the body long hours of hand fileing. where the gray primer is it is just about ready for paint. The weather finally got nice enough to roll it outside and get a look at how it sets after all the sysp work done over the winter. I think I still need an inch or two in the rear. No bags here.
Got the new radiator mounted finally and I needed to check hood clearance so I ended up putting all the front togeather for the first time from when I got it. I am likeing how it set's. now it needs paint.
Had to move it out of the garage today to make room for another small project for a few weeks. I really hate stopping now, its getting so close to paint time
So you guys that were watching this don't think I gave up I finally got a chance to move my 52 to a buddies shop. I haven't had it in my shop in months because of the other projects I am doing for other people (gotta pay the bills). Anyway, all new brakes on the rear, pwr steering lines made and in, wiring is started and all the plumbing should be done soon. Then on to finish the exhaust get the glass in and maybe go for a ride. The dam thing is so low we had to use 2x10s to get it on a mid-rise lift.
A bit of a update here. I have been very busy on projects for other people so I haven't had much time for my own but I have gotten the wiring all done the brakes all plumbed the cooling system, the shifter, gas peddle, fuel line, and a few other tid bits. I got a set a Keizer tail lights and have been trying to fit them but not real sure I like them now that I have cut the shit outa one corner.
Been awhile for me to post anything on my car because I really haven't gotten much done on it but w couple weeks ago I got a break from other customer builds so I spent a little over a week on my 52. It is so close to being able to drive its killing me to again set it aside for paying the bills. Here is what it looks like now.
Updates? well not really. I have driven it around a bit but everyone else's cars take most of my time. Just started a 37 Ford Club Cabriolet that is taking all me time now. I hope to be on the road as a daily driver this spring I hope I hope.
This is from 4 days ago just before the snow storm hit. I moved it to a friends shop where we can finish the wiring/glass/ trim and interior. Again I hope. LOL
