I wouldn't depend on the radiator hose to keep my whole front end together. A bracket of some kind off the grill shell mounts should work. What are you thinking on tires and wheels since the yellow ones are just rollers you said

I think we have the radiator support rod issue figured out. I'm gonna run a set of steel wheels with rings and '40 caps. Probly some shade of dark red or maroon.

Great project... subscribing for updates. My build started as a 29' sport Coupe, still going back and forth between keeping it as is and making the coupe roof I got for it permanently attached, or removable to keep it "sportcoupeish."

Keep up with the updates... its motivating for sure!

The updates have been painfully slow, but hopefully it will be ready to cruise by spring.... Can't wait. :D

We've been driving it around the shop. The Banger with that BIG cam sounds so cool. Gotta get the intake and header on it before we drive it to "Town"....

Finally got around to working on the wheel/tire combo for the coupe. We've got the car running and driving, but needed the tires and wheels ready so we could get it sitting right.

I looked through the stash and drug out these wheels. 2-16X4 and 2-16x4.5 that were pretty rough. I hung onto them because they savable, but they needed some TLC. I blasted them this morning and got to work on the damage. Someone had obviously cut the old tires off with a die grinder and cut thru the outer rims on 2 of them and one had a rusted out stem hole. Didn't take pics of the rim damage, but it was an easy fix. Here's how I fixed the stem hole.

5/8" flat washer fit the valve stem perfect so I die ground the rust back to clean metal and cut the washer down to fit the hole. Zipped it up and smoothed it back down. Easy peasy.... ;)

After getting all the issues straightened out, now it's time for some primer and paint. The seats are dark red, so I went with it on the wheels too.

Got the tires mounted up today. I mounted the fronts by hand with no issues (besides pinching a hole in one tube ), but the big ass rear tires were a different story. I wrestled the first one for about an hour before I said "Fuck This" and went to the other shop and used the tire machine.

I wanted the Coker Dirt Track tires for the rear but they don't offer a 7.50, so I made my own.

    What do you guys think?

I'm fairly certain that's how the first ones were done anyway. I looked at about a thousand vintage pictures, then broke out the grooving iron.

Love that car Dane. I think they are now called Sport Roadsters. ;)

It's a "Super Secret Blend".... Ace Hardware Premium Burgandy rattle can.

  15. Yup, thats the same color mine were. $50 worth of rattle-can paint and a few hours in the oven.

  17. Nice job Kev! What brand are those rear tires? Are they still available? They look great as dirt trackers!

Mine is a very early '29 Business Coupe that never had the oval window. According to what I learned from the Ford Barn guys, mid year 1929 the top bows changed a little and the Business Coupe's got the oval windows. Trust me, these top bows have NEVER been off the car (until today). We originally thought it was a Sport Coupe, hence the thread title.

The name on them is Deestone....? We owned a tire store for years, never heard of them. They are like new, so probably still available.

We got the wheels on today. That went so well, we decided to get it outside for a few pics.

After the ooo's and ahhh's.... It was time to get dirty. I've looked at every picture that I could find of these cars for a few years now trying to decide what to do with the top. These cars are WAY to tall in stock form to look like a Hot Rod. So these pictures were what I decided it needed to look like.

2-3" chop, no more.... I decided on 2"

I almost talked myself out of it, because I usually over do things....

It was REALLY hard to stop at 2". We were ready to tape it up another inch, but I wanted to stick to the plan. I really think it turned out perfect.

    Thanks man, appreciate that.

Sometimes just a little subtle shave is the best!

Glad you got working on it. It's a cool and oddball car.
