Got a bit of work done today.

Made a patch for the lower A-pillar. This side was in much better shape than the passenger side. Went pretty quickly.

Then started working on the lower B-pillar. This is going to be a much bigger pain in the ass than the passenger A-pillar was. Without tearing apart the whole outer rocker (which creates it's own set of problems), I have to cut out the inner rocker and lower B-pillar with it and the floor brace still in place. I've destroyed at least 5 air saw blades to get this far.

I bought a YOM plate at the Spokane Early Ford V8 swap meet last summer, and finally got around to checking if it's available for use. Luckily, it is. And it was waaaaaay cheaper than my Cali YOM plates I had on it before.

Thanks, I polished the valve covers and crank pulley, and touched up the polish on the intake. The timing cover is chrome powder coated. The crank pulley was originally blue anodized - you can still see some blue in the belt grooves. It's most likely going away in favor of a painted stock crank pulley. I don't really need underdrive.

Gray is going, the machine shop painted it that color rather than leave it bare metal. Trying to decide on a paint color. Whether to paint it body color, or a complementary color like the Orchid '49 earlier in the thread. I just ordered some Lavender VHT engine paint to try it out and see if the color will work. Looking at the engine with all the shiny bits, I think the lavender might work. The valleys in the valve cover and air cleaner fins will be painted as well.

I'm torn between 3 different finned air cleaners. Input would be appreciated!

Looks great !! I know you want to paint the engine, but the grey is subtle and makes all the hard work you put into polishing really POP !! A color ( IMO ) would distract...

She definitely has a heart, and as long as you keep working on her and loving her, she will always have a soul !!

My vote is this color. In my shoebox now I have a black 302and this is the one that came out. It might go back in soon. I have the air cleaner A) I can take pictures of it with the finned valve covers for you. I like it.

Nice looking motor, but... I'm not a big fan of anything gold. Plus it would look completely out of place in a purple car. It really would have to be purple, silver, gray, white or black to look right to my eyes. Gray and black really aren't what I'm going for, silver would be too much with all the polish and chrome. White would probably look good, but what a nightmare to keep it looking good.

I really like air cleaner A but it and B are REALLY expensive. I may go with C just for that reason, unless I can find a used one somewhere.

What color is the engine bay going to be? If white gold would look awesome. I wasn't a fan of gold till I saw ihatepaulie's motor and needed a small project while the baby was home for the holidays and I removed the multi layers of blue off. Did it gold just for shits and giggles and love it. I thought about white did white primer. Purple would be cool. The spare motor might get the aircleaner like C) but with fins all the way across. I think it's $56 on ebay last I looked with free shipping. Air Cleaner A) I got off ebay new in box for $47 the person mispelled Edelbrock.

Damn, that's a smokin' deal! I always just search for "finned air cleaner." Never see anything other than new stuff from ebay dealers.

The engine bay will be mostly black, with the cowl and probably the top part of the firewall body-color. I came across that Orchid '49 when I was looking for a complementary engine color for the Plum Crazy. Now I'm starting to consider flip-flopping the paint scheme, Orchid body and Plum engine. I powdercoated most of the engine bay/inner fenders semi-gloss black when I first removed it all (before I gave it much thought), so it's pretty much gonna be black regardless.

Thanks for that, but not crazy about the giant fins. It's trying to look like an old Thickstun flathead cleaner, but it's way too big for that.

I saw that, and really like the idea but I think it's way beyond my abilities.

The only way to know is to try. I like the oil bath conversion. Need one to cut up? I have a nice one.

I'll pm you a pick of it. It came off my car. If you think you want it ill have to figure out shipping to where you are. It's sitting on my shelf collecting filler dust at the moment. I would use it myself but I'm going with a dual quad set up so looks like you need it.

Ok, forgive my lack of knowledge ... Are you going to take the stock round oil bath air cleaner, and modify the bottom to fit the carbs you are running ???

Baby steps. I had ordered a couple different shades of purple engine paint, to try out different ideas. I cleaned up the stock 5.0 valve covers and gave them a once-over with a red scotchbrite pad, then painted each one a different color. The picture doesn't really show the true colors, the lavender one is close to how it looks in person, the darker one has a much redder, darker tint to it than in the pic. The way the tops of the covers look is kind of close.

I'm thinking of going with the lavender, because it will provide a contrast no matter which of the 2 purples that I'm thinking about, end up being the final color.

You could use the light purple on the car and the darker one for graphics, accents on other parts, or striping to get mor contrast. What happened to the purple color from the wheel? You gonna try that color as well?

The 2 colors are both non-metallic engine paint. I wouldn't really want either color on the exterior of the car, but either would work for the engine. I'm starting to lean toward the Evening Orchid or 1969 Lincoln Medium Orchid for the exterior, and the Plum Crazy for accents, maybe scallops?

The purple on the steering wheel is a House of Kolor candy, which is not something I want to attempt - it's expensive as hell, and I don't think I can pull off the bodywork to make it look right. I'll probably run the wheel as-is initially and see how I like it, then may end up painting it body or accent color.

The lavender will be perfect for a 1980s revival custom.
