Quick question about tail lights

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 56PonchoWagon, Apr 7, 2013.

  1. I am trying (without success) to find replacement lenses for my 1956 Pontiac Chieftain Wagons tail lights. However in my searches I noticed that 55 Chevy tail lights look to be very similar in shape and size. I know that the body's are generally the same except for the front sheet metal and trim and so forth but has anyone actually done this swap. Thanks in advance for any help I get.

The whole 55 Chevy unit will fit. I think standard 55 Pontiac lenses are what you need for just the lenses.

  3. I can find the brake light lenses but the triangle shaped backup lenses are whats really giving me the trouble. But thanks I will try the 55 lenses

1956 Olds 98 lenses in 55 Chevy housings would look good in your wagon.. They have to be cut in half but not seen much anymore...

  10. Now that is a fantastic idea! You don't happen to know where I could pick some up do you! I don't want to trade one hard to find part for another one!

I only have these complete tail lights and I would need $110 shipped.. Sometime you see just the lenses for sale on the auction sites.. It was a fairly common mild custom trick in the 50's...
