I always thought fords should have fords,& chevy's should have chevy's and on & on,til i started my lastest bild and could not find a freaken good/clean engine & trans i could afford or trust,No i say it's been a hell alot easier find hi-po part/swap parts,(a hell of alot easier than when i stuck a 421 in a 55 Pontiac)

Why? Because it's the best of both worlds. Best looking bodies, best engine for the money. It's kinda like a Reeses; chocolate and peanut butter.....a perfect match made in heaven. :)

  5. Yeah man, a SBC in anything is boring and it's taking the easy way out. Where's your originality and ingenuity? And damn it, it's not worth doing if it's not as difficult as possible!! I mean shit, I'm making this commitment RIGHT NOW. I'm gonna drive an extra 52 miles to work everyday, by taking the long way, because taking the short way would be too easy...uh and too cheap!! And if it's too cheap then everybody knows it must suck and it's for sure, not as cool.

Rip out that "belly Button" flathead and put in a Rambler V8 with twin turbos (with Olds valve covers), for fuck sake, you lazy bastards! Be freaking ORIGINAL!! :p

You're speaking for me here, I have great distain for the 350/350 types. What a boring choice for a powerplant.

Cause they run good? And cars are for driving?

    Just a guess.

Keep the hood closed and nobody will know, they look better that way anyways..

All in all. You're probally a 302 Ford guy on your second Flathead Hating on the SBC. Why, facts. It's really only the SBC you see in other cars since 1955.

You know, you're wife rather say "That's . . . My Mans Car" with the SBC & lakes headers going "BROOM BROOM BROOM" as oppose to that Mitsu 4G20 turbo going "EEEeee EEEeee EEEeeee"

    Mitsu 4G20 turbo in a Model A . . . . . Don't be a Homo.

Chevys are plentiful and cheap to build. Now that Ford came out with the 5.0, they're a viable alternative. The price to rebuild some early motors, you can get a sbc crate motor cheaper. Try pricing a rebuild kit for a Hemi, Nailhead or Flathead.

How about this one. I love Chevys' and Chevy Engines, cant afford a chevy car I like to put the engine in, hence the 327 into my Stude coupe.

Lighter than a flathead, close to same size, and an easy fit....... There's no "rules" that say what has to be installed in what vehicle,...and that's what roddin' is all about. Also knows as fun !

Back in 80's, I sold a friend of mine a decent 40 Oldsmobile Coupe. We looked for a donor car and found a 1 owner low mileage Olds Cutlass Wagon. The wagon had been special ordered when new and came equipped wit a 350 Olds motor and the 350 Turbo. What was really good was the 10-bolt posi and other special order parts were also salvaged for the build.
So almost 30 years ago we put an Olds in an Olds. People will always be brand LOYAL and I have a 350 Chevy waiting to power my 33 Chevy Truck.........
The Cool Thing about SBC is, just 2 years ago I sold my 408 cu.in. SBC to a friend for his 51 Chevy Hardtop. I still have all of the accessories from the 408 that will simply bolt in place (valve covers, intake, exhaust manifolds and other cool stuff
For you Guys that are BORED, Quit reading valve covers and look at the quality of a mans work. You must just see something you do like......... Jeff

I just do not get why everyone hates on a SBC, Bottomline, The reason it is used the most is because it is one of the best engines ever made. Hell they will run Damn near forever.

Iv'e alway's been a Ford in a Ford guy. Nothing wrong with chevys, but Ford has all the hi peformance stuff available now. The small block Ford is only about 3/4 of an inch longer than a sbc so that shouldn't be an excuse. I'm just bored with seeing sbc in ford hot rods. Thats my 2 cents. Thanks

If you were replaceing a flathead engine in a ford to 1953,the newer y block was to big dist problem,If Ford kept the Flathead into the 60 it would be a dog.
Ford didn,t ketch on till 1963, came out with the 260 soon went to 289.
    Ford lost 10 years.Chevy same engine 55 to 95.
People will copy and companys Like CE take all the thinking out.
Anyone asking a guestion should build a car.
