It's been a few years since I've been able to drive my own car down to the Lonestar Round Up. Last year I wasn't able to make it at all, which had me even more determined to make it this year.

During the months of February and March I worked nearly every night and weekend day on my roadster, with hopes of driving it to Austin. With help from my dad, Jason (jho), Clint, Jeff (hiboy32), Tom, and Jim (jjohnson), we actually made it happen!

Last Monday morning, Steve (18n57) and I left Omaha with fresh snow on the ground and 23 degree weather. He drove down from South Dakota the day before in his very cool '34 5-window.
We ran into some sleet/rain/snow north of Wichita, KS, and finally had decent weather by Oklahoma City. We made it to Allen (suburb north of Dallas) and a good friend of mine put us up in a nice hotel. Steve continued on to San Antonio the next morning and I took care of an oil leak issue with a new pair of valve covers. Thanks to Eric Anderson (Anderson on here) for directing me to Dallas Mustang for the valve covers. I was also able to visit friends in the area and use their garage to work on the car.
Wednesday, I visited a few more friends and had a new driveshaft made to (hopefully) fix a driveline vibration that started on Monday. Again, thanks to Eric for the the shop recommendation!

Spent Wednesday night in Fort Worth and met friends from Omaha and Lincoln, NE, on Thursday morning at Brian Bass' shop in Dallas. Great guy, with a cool shop and some great projects going. If you see this -- thanks again for the tour, Brian!

We went straight down to Austin after Brian's shop. It was the start of another great LSRU weekend in Austin. There really weren't any other car problems to speak of and we all enjoyed ourselves. I met quite a few newer HAMB members, which I always enjoy.
Big thanks to the Kontinentals for organizing such a great event!

The highlight of the whole trip was receiving the Rodder's Journal pick. Never in a million years would I have thought my car would even be considered for something like that. It was very cool to meet Steve Coonan and talk with him. He offered a one-year subscription or TRJ product(s) of equal value, as part of the pick. Since my subscription is already paid up, I picked a copy of the Scrapbook. A very cool trophy by Acme Speed Shop was included, as well as a bucket of car care products from Mothers. Thanks, again, guys!!

We arrived back in Omaha early this afternoon, safe and sound. Steve also made it back home to South Dakota, just in time to prepare for the snow storm that's moving in.

Again, thanks to all who made the 2013 Lonestar Round Up such a great event!

(I'm having trouble with Photobucket again and will add photos from my phone in the next few posts.)

I really like your roadster. I've got a 29. I've always wanted to take a trip like yours, but after putting probably 300 miles on mine during LSRU weekend I realize I need to tighten things up a bit first.

    Awesome car!

Nick, thanks for a great road-trip! Thanks to Jason and Tom, too. Woke up to freezing rain/snow mix this morning. But the hot rod and I are snug and dry!!

  22. Glad you made it down and back safe, with only minor teething issues on the roadster. Makes me miss my road warrior days.

A couple photos from the friends I visited in the Dallas area. Their 4-1/2 year old wanted to go for a spin around the block and loved it!
