That car belongs to my friend Gerry. I have been in that car in the driver's seat and it fits me like a glove. I have been doing the Dead Man's Curve party in Montville, NJ. for near a quarter of a century. I keep pushing Gerry to let me drive it full throttle, But alas, he lacks the spine. Additional pictures. And yes, that is Dennis Gage who did a major piece on My Classic Car.
Did he tell you about the doors flying off ..... Seems on the first cars, the doors would literally fly off at high speed - the solution was addressed by adding a clip to the door to keep it shut .... Wicked Cool ! Here is a shot of the previous owner of 30 years at load out ... John gave me the grand tour of his operation - he makes superchargers and blowers - his test bench for new designs is an original 57' Corvette Very cool guy .... Jim
------------------- I believe the front suspension was hand fabricated from an assortment of custom and off the shelf OEM Chevy bits, but the rear used a complete, near stock Corvette I.R.S. They needed to use an independent rear suspension because with the short wheelbase and the amount of engine set-back, there was no room for a driveshaft even and the output shaft of the Muncie 4-spd tranny had to connect directly to the differential with only a coupler. I was given a Cheetah 1/24 slotcar kit by one of my uncles. It was produced by Cox. The chassis was stolen from me before I got the body mounted, but in spite of that or maybe because of that, I still have the red plastic Cheetah body after 40++ years.
I love em, always have, but that lime green version doesn't do much for me. If ever there was a car that an old style Torque Thrust truly belongs, the Cheetah is it. Just sayin...
A pal of mine from Omaha is restoring his Cheetah drag car to run in nostalgia drags. I saw this bad boy race at the old Blair Airport strip in the late 50's. Gary Gerlough (sp?) is the owner and managaes the InterTech body shop in Shendoah, Ia now and is excited about gettin the ride cookin again. ~sololobo~
Gotta agree Highlander, but I'm also jealous. How many times do you think he has to explain what that thing is? It's been a few years since I Looked at the Cheetah website, but they accept ALL variations of Cheetahs as REAL. Doesn't matter who made it or out of whatever kind of material. As long as it looks like a Cheetah it's welcome. That's kind of cool, not like a plastic 356 being thought of as a Porsche..
will have to look ....but it seems like I have a pic of a lime gold green cheetah from Columbus gg's with torq thrust...
