free build .....maybe?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by anthony myrick, Apr 10, 2013.

  1. I teach collision repair at a high school tech center in central Alabama. We have over 200 students in our auto, diesel and welding programs. I am looking for ideas or suggestions on offering our services for some type of hot rod build (no rat rod stuff). I am wondering would any vendors be interested ? What type of project ? Who for? I was thinking about some type of charity project such as wounded warriors . When I was at JHRS we built the 2010 NSRA give away car. All parts and labor were donated. Could a project like this be feasible? We are currently restoring a model T and students are working on my 49 GMC. Old cars are not a problem at our school like some others. I am looking for a project that would be a positive promotion and motivation for our school and help bring awern*** of all tech schools. We have a decently equipped body shop, mechanics shop and welding shop with capable certified instructors. The best part is our students. You would be surprised how many students we have that are in to modifying cars and have no fear of getting dirty. We are in the process of building a round track car (off topic front wheel drive) from a car donated to us by an insurance co. I have been amazed how a simple project like this has motivated our students. This is one reason that I have posed this question. All we could provide would be labor and facilities so there would have to be some type of supplier help. We normally charge 25% over materials unless it is for charity (that’s how I understand it anyway). This is just something that our mechanics instructor and I have been wondering if possible and feasible. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  4. HOLY **** ON A STICK! Totally forgot that thread still existed. Any way we are looking into building/repairing a car for a charity group that gives repaired cars to worthy people in need. Thanks Vicky Hemi for the help on making the post readable and for the bump. Still wondering if something like this would be feasible. Hoping to be posting pics of a possible roadster build I am trying to finalize details on that we hope to build in our cl***.
