Folks Of Interest ####Annual Mid-West HAMB-B-Q 2013####

Well, I had planned to drive the coupe because of the cool art but Mokan is having their spring Hot Rod Reunion Sunday. I think I'll drag the digger out to Jay's behind the wagon and then head to Mokan Sunday AM and try to get myself down the track.

 

I'll have some salmon filets, sodas (mostly root beer), and other stuff.

Anybody driving behind Nate or Zack better bring an umbrella too.

 

Maybe I can convince Carla we don't need to hit Omaha on the way back?!

BTW, Jay, I need some destructions on how to get to your place and some contact numbers. We will be in Abilene Friday fairly early.

Sounds good! I dropped my generator off this morning for a rebuild so hopefully they'll get it together in time?!?!?!.....

 

Looks like I'll be in the daily driver, hoping to get the Galaxie dropped off to get the vibration fixed sometime mid week and probably wont have it back for a few days. I'll see everyone when I get to NoSurf's after I get off of work.

 

New front tires and door glass. I'm ready to roll.

We cant make the 7am in Topeka but will be through there a couple hours later.

We'll leave either late Thursday or early Friday. Weather should be better Friday. Up in the air on the van or Josephine. It's all about the weather....

I bought some Colorado BBQ sauce from Brothers BBQ tonight, Tangy Vinegar.

I'll pick up some Henry Whienhardts Root Beer too!!

I dropped the pork and rub off at a local friend's place yesterday. He is going to smoke it up for us. He'll drop it off Friday eve for us to pull.

I still have some cleaning up to do Friday night in the shop.

The wagon is loaded and the digger hooked up. When Travis gets back from his school golf deal we'll be heading out.

 

Look's like I am going to have to pass this year. Too many irons in the fire. May-be next year.

 

I am just starting on the bbq baked beans, frying the bacon, and getting the other ingredients ready to go. See you all tomorrow !

No-Surf Jay,

I had an excellent time at my first HAMB-BBQ! I am definitely glad I went. Thanks so much for having us over and putting everything together. We'll have to swap some more surfin' stories.

The cruise was a blast, the pulled pork (beans, salmon, cookies, fruit, etc) was extremely tasty and very cool rides indeed.

It was great to meet;
- Mike from Colorado in his cool '40 coupe (even though he didn't have a large T, I'll catch you later)
- The very nice gal with a broken Falcon delivery (hope you find a gas cap)
- Kerry and his son with the Hemi dragster pulling, wagon with Torque Thrusts (good luck today at Mo/Kan)
- "Travis from Kansas" that also went to Southeast of Saline (see ya in Dewey)
- The tall, school principal, "Willie the Wildcat" with a square body, Falcon 'vert
- The guy in the 36 coupe, the guy in the red '37 truck, etc. I didn't get to meet everyone and I am absolutely horrible with names.

I can't wait unitl someone posts the video of the banger races, that was classic!

I will definitely bring my wife and daughter next year. Maybe I can talk them into spending the night.

So what can I say? The HAMB BBQ was always my 'must go' for years and one day I looked back and I had missed more then I had made! Not this time, I took work off far in advance and friday night I hit the road!

I made it to Omaha with out as much as a bump in the road and after hours of car talk and ribbing to try to get him to come with I crashed on oldsboy's couch around 1 am. Super excited for the trip I got to sleep closer to 2 and the alarm was sounded at 4 am to get my butt in gear!

I shivered out to the car and drove across town to pick up my road trip bud Audi and we hit 75 south waiting for the sun to come up as we delved into kansas.

Rolling into the small town of Wamego KS we were the first ones there but after a few minutes we saw a 36 ford rumble by and Bugsy appeared out of late model truck to introduce himself.

We made out way into the friendship house for some great food and for being so packed very quick service as the rest of our crown trickled in over an hour or two. We all ended up at the parking lots BS'ing and talking hill climbs and what have you until every one had eatin and we headed over a block or so to the wizard of Oz museum. Its more of a giant giant collection of wizard of OZ stuff and not stuff straight from the movie but it was kinda neat to walk threw and check out.

Back in the cars we followed...well maybe tried to keep up with is a better way to say it... some of those Vagabonds to manhattan KS to the discovery center for a 4D movie and more parking lot chatting as more people joined the group.

A few of us peeled off and went to check out a shop of one of the people on the drive that had tons of....well everything and then we beat feet to Jay's

I've gotta say I didn't get much driving footage as its hard to do while driving but looking back or forward and seeing a line of angry hotrods was a great way to justify being awake for 23 hours on hardly a nap.

At Jay's great BBQ pork, smoked salmon and all sorts of sides were had, good drinks, chickens, and alot of smiles.

Eventually Bugsy's roadster was fired up and after watching the geyser of fuel coming threw it we shut it down thinking that was it for the day. Next thing you know tools are out, carbs are apart and its back together and running much smoother!

With at least 4 ford banger powered rides you know what had to happen next, dirt road high jinx, races and roadster rides!

I'm going to post the photos in more of less the order i took them and then I'll get to stitching a zillion video clips into something that should at least be watchable.
