yes or no on lowering the Buick

I recently bought a 57 Buick and Im debating on lowering it. Currently it has a 74 nova subframe and 67 c10 rear coils. Whats everybodys thoughts? I also want to do wide whites.

Yes. I think it will look way better about half that far off the ground and still be high enough to be a daily driver.

Drop it...lower is better!

 

Dont ever do that unless you want a car that handles like its a waterbed on wheels. There are many companies that sell lowering springs. But budget allowing, air bags would also work great.

 

I just did full air ride on mine, its on a later 70's GM chassis

 

Does cutting the coils really result in a terrible ride quality? I personally have never used this technic to lower a car but I have seen it done on several occasions. If ride quality suffers so severely why do people use this method? Not trying to argue, just looking for an explanation. Thanks, CTJ

 

Cutting coils actually makes the ride stiffer.

BTW, rear coils usually have a "Pig Tail" (tighter coil) both top and bottom.
This keeps you from being able to simply cut them, as with the front.

 

Don't just lower it, the lying on the ground broken look is LAME-O. Give it a good stance.

i do not know the proper terms but my experience has been that if the coil is the same top to bottom ( 58 IMPALA ) cutting the coils works great---lower it ...

I used to have a '70 Chevy C10 truck that had the coils cut.
Damn thing was dangerous!
I have to admit, I think he may have heated them also.

Lots of options for lowering the front. I'm deciding how I'm going to do my '54 right now.

 

Cut them coils..I cut the ones on my Windsor 1 1 /2 and wanted more so i cut another 1/2...looks good..rides well..

Cut 1 1/2- 2 coils and yes to wide whites...

 

Literally EVERY coil equipped car that I have owned over the last 30 years has had it's coils clipped to lower it. It will make the ride stiffer, not looser. Always clip a minimal amount at first, put it together, drive it, take a bit more if you need. Oh, be sure to trim, replace, or relocate your bump stops to compensate and make sure you have enough shock travel as well. If you have to replace the shocks with shorter units. It's a bit of work, but you CAN make a lowered car ride nicely.
