    What I use is a early 70s Chevy Alt with a 60s Chrysler regulator. One wire to the reg, Keyed 12 v. One wire from reg to F on Alt Done!!!

    I take it you are using a GM external regulated alternator and GM four terminal regulator.

    F on the alternator to the F (or 1) terminal on the regulator.

    R (or 2) on the alternator to the 2 terminal on the regulator.

    Ignition power to the 3 terminal on the regulator (if been a while since I wired one of these, so if is doesn't charge switch the wire to terminal 4).

    You only need these three wires hooked to the regulator.

    Make sure both the alternator and the regulator have good grounds.

    And BTW- I only mentioned the 145 SR15 tire size because those of us who like that tire size, it's getting harder to find. I had to go to a 155 SR15 in a BFG :(

    The old go to was the Michelins but I'm not paying Cokers outrageous prices for a friggin tire. Wasn't meant to be a roadster vs sedan debate. Just a tire observation.

    The Pirellis we had on the car originally are available to the tune of about $700 a pair. How's that for outrageous! Maybe Santa will bring me a pair for Christmas.:rolleyes:

    I drove the Sedan to lunch today after spending to much time at AAA getting it currently registered. I'm glad that's done. I texted my family that it was registered and my wife texted back,"time for a road trip!". She has no idea how loud that tin box is going to be. I guess I can get her some earplugs.

    Pete, Tim, Tom and Bill and myself all decided to do the get together at Father's Day starting at 11:30 on Saturday. Anyone wearing a shirt is welcome to dine with us. The Sedan will be in the spot so it will be easy to find us. I will be repeating this several times because I know not everyone sees every post.

    I guess I'll get back to driving and smiling!

    Many of you know of Pete as a hot rod guy. Believe it or not he was a horseless carriage guy first. His breadth of automotive knowledge is limitless. Antique cars, motorcycles, hot rods, dragsters, sprint cars, Bonneville cars and others.

    Friday he went to the Bakersfield Swap Meet and found a windshield for my Packard. This may not sound like a big deal, but as far as I know, there are only 6 left of my 1911 Packard model 18 touring car. If you think Pete's skillful with hot rods, you should see the 1912 Model 30 Roadster Racer he is building. Absolutely incredible!

  11. Pete has got an uncanny ability to sniff out and find the coolest stuff. His race car restorations are proof of that.

    Next question: Did the seller of the Packhard windshield have any idea what he had? Hopefully, the price was right, too.

    The seller did know what he had but he also knew he had a limited market for it. Pete negotiated a great deal for me.:)

    Last night we finally got the Sedan to run right. The struggle we had getting all the gasket material off the carburetor put pieces where they shouldn't have been. We had it off and dis***embled 4 times. It seems good now. Carb cleaner just isn't what it used to be. We used to use McKay carb cleaner and it would dissolve everything. Can't get it California. Is that still available in Arizona or somewhere else?

    I need to rethink the 4.57 gears as an everyday ratio. It's fun around town but stinks on the freeway. I think I'll switch to either 3.55 or 3.23. When we weren't racing we ran a 3.89 ratio but the freeway speed was 55 then not the 70 you have to drive now to keep up with traffic.

    That's what I have in my roadster with 2.55 70 15s in the back. Still spinning 2800 at 70 though

    I've already nailed a 3.25 for my roadster pickup, so it's kinda unanimous! Should put you somewhere right at about 2600 rpm for a 75mph cruise.
     
  19. I had a 3:25 in my 33 Coupe and 3:20 in the Quickchange in my Roadster, good ratios for going places.

    I have 3:23 in the deuce roadster with 285-70's, its a stout 427 and m22 rockcrusher.... The combo is just right

    Sounds like 3.25 it is.

    Coincidentally, Pete is taking that ratio out of his sedan and putting 3.00 in it. 75 MPH is just to slow for him. Lucky me!

    Thanks for all the input everyone. And by the way, since everyone is running "freeway flyers", I guess you will all be at LARS with your cars.

    Sounds like the old days Pete! Do you remember the time that the club was headed to Cars of The Stars for a sway meet and Phil Lukens ran out of gas, twice. You, Phil, Randy Troxel and I decided to catch the rest of the group and got there before some of the other guys?

    Rick, First, thanks so much for doing the shirts for the redo of your Deuce Tudor. It is a good chance to see a car that was probably an inspiration for alot of other cars to be built. Being a recent widower, I sure hope that I have the gumption to get my '41 Tudor out and down to the Roadster Show.

    Hey have you considered taking the Tudor to the Eagle Field Drags in May ?
    In either way see ya in June !

    I keep burning up points. Here is what I have and what I have done.
    Stock distributor with Blue Streak points and a Mallory coil with a Chevrolet resistor.
    Points burned after about 10 minutes.
    Volts dropped from around 12 to 10 at the resistor. Switched to a Chrysler resistor and the voltage went from 12 to 6.5. Should be better but still did the same thing.

    Here is a little background. I've already switched distributors, condensers and resistors. Disconnected the tach and byp***ed the alternator. No change.
    I've burned through 4 sets of points already. Don't suggest an electronic ignition. I've thought about that but want to solve this problem first.

    Any ideas???

    Not my area of expertise, but is the coil rated properly for a points ignition?

    As in the resistance of the coil, 'cause lower resistance coils would be for certain types of electronic ignitions. I could imagine that would wreak havoc on your points.

    The only reason points should burn is toooo much voltage. I know you measured the voltage at the coil at idle but what is it at say 2500 rpm. Maybe you are generating to much voltage from the alt to be overcome by the resister?? Or is it possible that the coil is hooked up backwards?? Just guessin
