Hey Verno... I read on the channel 8 news Dubuque is bracing for some flooding, how bad is it up your way? Hope this doesn't put a damper on anything, I'm ready for the show!

Parts north of Dubuque are notorious for flooding. Where the cruise is, downtown, and especially the fairgrounds will be OK.

In 1965 there was a bad flood in Dubuque which prompted the building of the flood wall. Since then, everything has been try, especially in 1993 and 2008 when things were bad throughout the midwest.

Bottom line, we'll be OK. Flooding is not a problem. Can't wait.

Took the Model A for it's first short drive of the season today. Hooked up the 1935 speedometer that HAMBer e1956v rebuilt for me over the Winter.

2 days of sun....I should have spent more time driving today, I only went 3 miles.

  14. Rumor has it there's a giant vintage tin magnet located in Dubuque, Iowa;...it's magnetic pull is getting stronger everyday;...soon it will be pulling old cars towards Dubuque from all directions. Word has it the pull is so strong it's pulling lighter weight cars, like Henry J's and A roadsters from as far away as New York and Omaha! among other places.
....If you happened to be a few miles up in the sky when the pull is the strongest; you could see vintage iron converging on Dubuque from all directions. This is an amazing phenomena that you should be a part of,...see you guys there!!

^^^ Well that explains why my car was pointed towards Dubuque this morning. Torque Fest 2013 already has a record number of pre-registered cars....and counting. As this hot rodders pilgrimage nears no vintage tin will be capable of resisting this magnetic pull.

Like moths to a flame......like moths to a flame.

  16. I'm in the same position. I didn't have confirmation until today that I could get off of work. Now the hotels are full.

Try checking hotels in nearby Peosta. It is a short 5-10 minute drive from the fairgrounds.

    Hey,
Just did a random check and found that there are plenty of hotels available. Quality Inn Peosta(10 miles west of fairgrounds) has rooms for $74.99 cheaper if you have AAA 563-557-8878.
These rooms will go fast. Call now!

Holiday Inn -downtown Dubuque AAA with 2 double beds $129 563-556-2000.

    Best Western AAA $134 2 double beds - 563-557-8000.

Sorry, all the cheaper rooms are sold out. We will try to get more hotels on board next year!

All are nice hotels. The Holiday Inn has a dedicated parking ramp and is within walking distance to Sunshine Family Restaurant for the Friday breakfast and the downtown bars for nightlife.

Peosta and the Best Western are both 10 or so minutes away from the fairgrounds. The Best Western has a nice restaurant called "Champps" attached to it.

I've had it since 1994! Been doing stuff here and there, now it's getting a front end rebuild, and a new sender in the gas tank! It always ran great! But this will be its first trip out of state! So looking forward to the whole weekend, the back roads cruise there, the show, the cars, and surprising my buddy when the Galaxie shows up to take us there! since he's expecting my little Ranchero!
