A 1930 Model A followed me home...my first tradtional hotrod build!

    I've been lingering and gathering tiny bits of knowledge for a few years now and finally got enough bills paid off that I can justify starting this and feel like I can throw my best at it.

    I found a 1930 Model A Coupe w a title on CL and felt like it looked good enough to take a look. So, 9 hours and a busted transmission later, I dragged her home and pushed it into the garage. I've wanted this car for years and i finally have one. She ain't the perdiest and shes gonna take some work, but thats what this is all about right? Lemme know what you think...try not to be too hard on it. :rolleyes:

    Looks good ! I like the fact that so many parts are bolted in place. Sure, some of the parts won't go back on, for a number of reasons, but you have the whole picture. What is your general plan ?

    Nice car, that will be a good start. Some of that rusty stuff you won't need anyway. ;-)

    It's a good start, plus you got a title with it (getting a title seems like the hardest part of building a car if it didn't come with one).

    32 Blackboard frame on order, 1950 Caddy 331, dropped axle, buick drums, fenderless, 4 inch chop, maybe a small channel to kill the gap between body and frame. Thats the basic plan...we'll see how it evolves.

    Amen! if it aint the cab I dont need it! Frame, fenders, suspension are all going by by...if anyone wants anything PM me. IT'S GOING CHEAP or i'll trade for anything I can use!

    Ok am I the only one who is reminded of the airplane with the outwardly tilted windshield when you saw the first side shot. How would that look? Drop the roof line and push out the top of the windshield?

    I definitely will once I have any progress to post. Hopefully, I cant stay away and get that body separated tonight. We'll see. And I had a Bronco on 33's and it would fit in the garage, but yur right, this thing is WAY too tall... Nothing a torch, angle grinder, and welder cant fix.

    Thanks guys. Honestly, I feel really good to have it. It ain't perfect by any means, but its mine and it'll get there. Took the part I need off of the parts I don't tonight.

    Thanks for the encouragement guys....I was nervous bringing it home that id be a lot worse than it seemed. It turned out to be a little better that expected. need some patch panels and seemingly the entire bottom of the car.

    Gotta get the cowl off and put my good cowl on. Hopefully that happens tomorrow and friday. Then the cuttin' n weldin' begins.

    About selling the frame, you mentioned you have a title for the car, check to see if the serial number on the title matches the serial number on the frame. If it does, you may want to reconsider selling it, since the serial number (with rare exception) doesn't appear anywhere on the body. ...if you care!

    Ill be using a 32 frame...will it matter if the number isn't there?

    Someone else can get a title for a Model A using that stamped number off the frame. I've never heard of anyone doing it but it might give peace of mind to take a cut off wheel and cut the section with that number out of the stock frame and sell the frame cheaper for that reason. Or grind the number off the frame rail. That isn't chickenshit in the least when you have the car that came with the frame with a clear title.

    I would just hang on to that frame you never know what the future will bring, especially when you go to the DMV to get plates. Also when you put the title in your name. Here in Arizona you have to do an out of state inspection where they look at the vin number to make sure it is not faked. Last one I did for my 30 coupe the officer brought out a book that showed him the difference between the model A numbers.

    The first thing I would do is get the title registered in your name. Then if the number on the frame matches your title cut out that section and consder welding to you new frame. then sell the rest. The chassis may be wrth more than you think. Good luck.
