ok, guys I can't believe that someone doesn't know exactly why a 'rake' came about..... old cars, poor springs and a newer model heavy v-8 engine equals the reason the front of the car was down. same reasons lakes pipes, chop tops, shaving everything off the outside and low stance came to the streets ....off of the Dry lakes racers, every one in that time wanted to look like a racer (kinda like todays ricers) most of the modifications were specifically due to the lake racers.
The real reason the rake came about was that rear springs were made in the U-S-of-A... and front springs were getting outsourced to Taiwan Kind of reminds me of that interesting story about why the V-8 came about....nobody really knows it...but... Turns out that Henry Ford actually had a REALLY FAST head-on-collision out on the salt in the early dry-lakes days. Banger to Banger one might say. The result was...well...you guessed it... THE V8
Rake is different for each car. It's like porn. Very difficult to discribe, but I know it when I see it.
Yes, I believe I do........ My dad used to say " if your car looks like a bloodhound who got kicked in the balls " it's right. That was around 1958 or 59 when he had his 36 2 door sedan. I believe he had it right (R.I.P.) Thanks for bringing this one back up.
I wish I saw more mild customs with a very small rake. No rubber rake, just a ever so slight rake to the front but low all around. Like on mid to late fifties cars . Like that light blue 55 I think mcphail had in rod and custom like 5-10 years ago. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
