ha thanks guys. been crazy busy getting the shop setup. when we first moved in everything was kinda just thrown in there and not well organized. i fixed that by getting some 12' tall warehouse pallet racks and getting everything off the floor and onto the shelves.

i have made some progress on the sedan though. i made a little jig thingy to hold my steering box in the right spot so i can start building the mounts to attach it to the hoop that's under the cowl. the next step involves needing a drill press which we don't have yet... but we're going to go pick up a pretty nice looking drill mill i found on craigslist this weekend so hopefully it won't be too much longer before the sedan actually has steering!

Looks cool and I'm a longtime EFI LSx guy, but I hope we won't be able to see that engine and it's covered, the turbo on one side won't look good.

But I covet your car one of the few cars I'd like in my permanent collection.

Wow, an update!

I finally got the steering box partially mounted. Lemme show you....

I think I mentioned it before but I cut off the flange on my F1 box and had NealinCA machine it down to 1.75". The roller on my sector had a couple of bad spots on it so Neal sold me a good one along with a rebuild kit. Neal's got good prices and great service. Thanks again to Neal.

So, after some mock up testing I figured out where I wanted my pitman arm to be on the car. Remember, I'm putting the pitman arm on the inside of the cowl. I'm a dry lakes racing guy and no self respecting lsr guy is gunna build a car with a pitman arm sticking out the side of it.... doubt they'd build a Model A tudor sedan either but whatever.



Next I drilled a little locating hole in the cowl where I wanted the center of the sector to be located at. Then I machined up this little locator tool out of some aluminum round stock.



I also made a stand out of some scrap metal and some all thread. This allowed me to "float" the box where I wanted it so I could get it fitted and then welded into place. When I bought the box it had the steering shaft cut off short so I just "reversed" the box temporarily and the all thread went up into the shaft like a corn dog on a stick. I could then move the all thread up and down until my pointer located into my reference hole.





Then it was just a matter of checking a million times to make sure it was straight, level and square and then I partially welded on the outboard clamp and tacked on the inboard clamp.









Here it is with the cowl/tank back on... and of course the last pic is fuzzy.



Next up will be some big tall gussets to support the vertical tubes of the "hoop" and then I'll do the steering arm stuff up front and build the tie rod and drag link... oh and of course the pitman arm. At some point I'm going to build a tube mounting section on the right side of the box that mirrors the left side. And that's my poor mans version of a Schroeder steering box.

For all you Ecotec turbo fans, I just discovered this little road racer hot rod today and checked out their web site for Ecotec 2.0 engine variant power trains. And so... the scales have tilted back towards the little I-4 from the LS3 for now on my Model A build. What think? Anyone else know of other 2.0 Ecotec builders or Ecotec powered builds of any kind? Hey Beef Stew, I need some help with an ecotec in a buggy, I am trying to get the tach to work with the plug coils and looking for a lead to hook up an old vdo tach.
I don't know which of the coil wires to cut into to get the signal for the autometer adapter. Or I heard I could use a tap off one of the rectifier leads in the alternator, I like that idea, I am not much on cutting a bunch of wires going to the computer, that bothers me. Can you point the way?
