Nope. I'm just old enough to feel that some cars need a restoration, instead of just fading out. If I could, I'd buy it and do it up right. But, it's your car and I'm just giving an opinion and wishful thinking.

From what I've observed, when it comes cars like this, "keeping it a survivor" usually equals lack of funds to clean a car up right. Not everyone can afford a full resto or refurb on a car. No shame it that, it's just life. But that's also when, for the sake of a cars history, it should perhaps be passed on to someone who can.

So, don't take offense, but that car needs a restoration. Wish I could save it, but.... maybe in a couple years. Thanks for the offer.

Dan in the front row with his aluminum Buick motor. Pete E. and I remember that to be one of the few that truly was under the 1500 pound weight limit for fenders.
Dan and Pete's buddy Jake would lead us through the "cloverleaf" interchange of the Long Beach freeway at Alondra after the "Early Times" tuesday night meetings and within a few "laps" Dan would be right on my ass trying to "lap" me.
    Good ol' days from 1967....:)

Hey Mazooma, No insult intended, but I think that car is the one he traded the Milk Truck for at a show in the mid sixties. I believe this one is a bit later from the early seventies when he was in his big shop days. I will look a bit later in the day through my collection for the feature that is stuck in my brain on this one. Strikes me it was in Street Rodder about '74 or '75 or so.

Okay gang, got a little time to dig. I'm not 100% that this is the car shown here (the orange bucket), but this is the first Orange Dan Wood's Contemporary Carriage Car I came across. It's also sort of a "twofer" 'cause some one up the line mentioned the white car in their post on the last page. I'll keep digging later today, but start comparing details for now. It was pretty rare for Dan at the time of the cross spring front ends to build a car that DIDN'T use his sectioned front, high back body, so I'm thinking this might have been changed at some point.

Hey Flootie, how about rollin' that puppy outside and shooting some real pictures of this car so we can see it for real?

  13. I love everything that Dan Woods built. That guy had his own style that was timeless.

The white T on the cover is the "White Lighthing" car I had, I talked to Dan about the car and the guy he built it for, he said that the guy ran his motorcycle off a cliff somewhere in the hollywood hills just after the car was finished and the car went into storage at his home and that's where the grand kids and cats messed it up. I was building my woodie at the time so I sat the T aside, but had a MoPar guy offer me double what I paid so I sold it.. Dumb shit...

There are some cars that deserve to be brought back to the way they were originally intended, this is one of them. You are not the new owner, you are the new caretaker. You now have the responsibility of making sure this T gets a full, proper, and correct restoration..........nothing else will be fair to the car. If you do not want to do that, or don't feel up to the task, please pass it on to someone who is willing to do whatever it takes to get it restored.

It is not going to be easy or cheap, but you have purchased a piece of history and have to do it.

Uhhhhh, this is the June 1967 cover of Rod & Custom. I was there the day this photo was taken. It was in the City of Paramount on Minnesota Ave. and it was 1967. You can see "JUNE 1967" on the cover of the magazine. That is Dan Woods in his red t-bucket in the front row. I went on dozens of runs with the "Early Times" but wasn't a member because I was under the age requirement of 18.
Several of the cars in this photo went on a road trip to Oregon in October of 1967 and I rode shotgun in the orange Caddy powered Fiat and that was over six months after this photo was taken.
I have absolutely NO idea what you are talking about.

I remember that R&C and it must have been cool getting a whole club on the cover but the only similarity I see between that car and Flootiebuell's find is the bucket itself. Is that the same body but on a different chassis?

and the fact that Dan Woods is sitting in it and owned it....this one T-Bucket has the Woods style body but not the same front suspension. THIS Is kind of where the whole deal started.
I just thought some of you guys would be interested in some history on the topic.
You have to remember this photo as taken in early 1967, long before, ah forget it..

No Mazooma, I know you were there and know the deal intimately. I know that that is Dan Woods. I just wanted to point out that that particular car is not the one we are talking about in this thread. The car disscussed in this thread is a quite newer build form the sevnties I believe.

I do ALWAYS value your input on stuff. I look up to you guys that were there more than you could believe and soak up your stories like a sponge. Absolutely no insult intended. Confusion like Dr Js above is what I was trying to head off at the pass...

I posted the scan of the magazine cover to show Dan and the T that, no doubt, inspired him to make more for customers.
    That is all.
I never said that this car featured was the original poster's car. I just thought some of you guys would like, see, and understand the connection between the two.
That is Dan and that was his car that started a trend of people ordering his style of T-bucket from him. The later front suspension became his signature along with the body modifications.
An old classmate of mine had one of Dan's little T "C-Cabs" that you got as kind of a kit that you assembled yourself. It's probably still in a corner of his garage today.
    OK.....carry on.

  27. This has always been one of my all-time favorite pictures. If anyone ever wanted to build a late-60s style hot rod, this should be the first reference photo they should study. I would proudly drive any of these cars today. They're all badass.

I ran across one of those "C" cab bodies a couple of years ago at a swap here in town. The guy said "Congrats, you are the only one that knows what it is so you have to buy it". With 20/20 hindsight I wish that I had. I still have his number and I bet it's still up in Kingman...

Yup, definately needs to be returned to its former glory. I'm with tfeverfred on this...
My hunch is this is a different car. Headlights, chromed stock rear-end cover, tail-light not centered, and most of all, Woods signature widened skylarks on the back & brown upholstery instead of black. As Jeff said, kinda sad to see a Dan Woods car in this state. I hope the new owner goes the distance, and we get to see the end result at some point...
