Hey FNG's.... follow up! ...and I'm still a fng :D

I think if your asking a question you need to follow with a outcome. Good, bad, or otherwise.

It'd be nice to know if the time spent, helped or didn't. Besides the fact the archived question might help others . A simple thanks or this is what I did would be great.

No rant, just a good way to see what really works.

I'm with you on this. Too many times I've gotten off my comfy couch, gone to the garage to look at my notes for part #s or take measurements. Then, not even a reply.? I think mostly the problem is FNGs can't even find there own thread! HAHA

It's the same way on a lot of boards, fngs post a question and the never follow up. It's just plain rude, if someone helps you out the very least thing you could do is say thanks, it would be nice to find out what it took to cure if it was a tough question too.

You're absolutely correct my good man. I'll be the first fng to apologise. "Sorry " guilty as charged!
I WILL make an effort within the next couple of days to all of my "followups "

Sadly, it's not just FNG's who don't follow up.

Wow, I hope I havent been "that guy", but likely have. I want to take this moment to apologize if I have ever offended someone who took the time to help me. Obviously I am a FNG! But am grateful for the knowledge I have gained From the HAMBers.

I mostly agree with everyone so far. Those furry Florida members are so smart and cute! But let's not limit the blame to those FNG's. A lot of old members do the same.
No matter what the questions or problems it's nice to know what worked or didn't. I'd rather learn from your screw ups, waste of time, and money than my own. I screw up enough already.:)

I do not want a follow up to the dude asking how to take the front springs off his toyota pickup to trailor conversion or the other guy bitching about NAPA on his FIRST INTRO post.........

When I first got on the HAMB I was afraid to get my ass handed to me if my question was STUPID. So I tried to make sense. Now with the sort of PC HAMB the FNG can be as STUPID as he wants, get an answer, and go on his dipshit way.........Happens when you don't have to GIVE AN INTRO..............Somehow, once you got thru the initial initiation you were more one of the guys....Different now somehow.

  19. ALSO!!!! Learn to follow your thread as stated!!! It's in the Quick Links if it drops off the first page. I have to admit that with over 60 years of hands on car info I have STOPPED trying to help FNG's just because of their lack of Follow up, and that's a real Sad thing. In fact I rairly post at all anymore.

My claim to fame on "follow up" occured on another board with my avatar truck. Had posted a question/ concept which was followed by the " experienced experts" telling me how many times it had been tried and failed. A year later after I completed it I took the time to go find the original thread and post my success. Crow was consumed en masse including a whole bunch of folks giving me more credit/praise than deserved.

I'm pretty sure I've followed up to every question I've asked... Except for recently, I asked a question about an engines length, reason being the same old story we have all heard, "sure ill sell it to you, just let me round up the parts first". Next month," yeah I saw it the other day, you wanted the 331 right? It's yours as soon as I find time to get to it" I know I know I can go to the tech areas for this, but hell, who doesn't want to talk about hemis, especially as i am atempting to wedge it into an A coupe? Well I was quickly shot down. Go to tech forums! Just in time to see the thread about toaster ovens back up top...

  24. So what did you do to an F-ie that was so unbelivable and impressive? I just happen to know my way around them pretty well.

What is the purpose of an intro? does it have any value?

One of my biggest peeves is this. I find flip flops, go out measure something, then not so much as even a thank you? Makes me not to want to help the next one.

If they want to start out on the board with bullshit then they will go away the way of bullshit.

Sure, you can lie through your ass on an intro, but somewhere down the line, someone is going to catch you. And then you look like a dink.

The purpose of an intro is to let others know a little bit about yourself, your knowledge, experience, etc. As many others have said, you wouldn't walk into a strangers garage and ask a question without at least saying "Hi" first, so why doesn't the same apply here?

As much as this is a fairly anonymous forum of which anyone can join, there's still a lot of friends made and brotherhood formed. To some people, this place is family.

I think most of us just want to know the status of a problem posted in a thread or the result of posted input. What worked AND what did not. All of it helps us somewhere down the line. One more on the road!
