These are the Fine Artists of the Automotive/Car Culture life/group/sport, what ever you want to call it, World.

 

Tom Fritz is great. Super nice guy if you see him at a show, make sure to say hi.

Nailed it in my eyes. They are the Renissance men of hotrodding .

 

Ruben Duran deserves a mention.

One guy who was a huge inspiration for me was Bill Motta, though I don't know if he ever did anything hotrod related the man is a master of automotive painting

Tom Fritz will be the feature artist at the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, Michigan as part of the new American Legends display featuring 24 19
50's era Customs and Hot Rods from around the country. This isn't a first for museums but is for the Gilmore. The show opens May 12th and runs for 2 years!!

Personally Ed Roth, and Pete Millar of carTOONS and Drag Cartoons fame is about at the top.

 

Ed Newton. Darrell Mayabb. Steve Stanford. Chip Foose.

 

Sanjay Heera is young and phenomenal, hopefully he'll make his mark one day.

 

Glad to see Fritz at the top of the list, but that does not mean that Weesner is right at the bottom of the list. They both are some of my favorites. They both tell a great story but in a different way. Great blog!

 

Another great is James Ibusuki. I've got his "First Strike" print of the Greer-Black-Prudhomme car nicely framed at home. But couldn't find a picture online so here is another one of his for your enjoyment. He seems to have fallen off the map though, because his website doesn't exist anymore.

Another well known Hot Rod artist I know referred to Ruben as "The Norman Rockwell of Hot Rod art...".

You know all these artist are great! What they hold as a God given talent is awesome. I'd love to sit down with these great artist for a one on one. Something more than just a picture.

 

I agree with every one mentioned, I have to add Rex Burnett for those classic cutaways and Lance Sorchick for his abbreviated stances!!!

 

I saw one on this site I've been looking for years since.

It's a '40ish Ford parked on the side of the road with a greaser sitting on the curb in front of it eating a taco.

 

If a painting is something you hang on a wall to enhance a room's aesthetic, then Wees' technically perfect, kitschy, blue collar, stylised depictions of traditional "cool rods and hot girls" do it for me.
Each picture tells an atomic tale.

 

I only saw one mention of Dale Klee, but his stuff looks good in the house.

Naming five hot rod artists is difficult for me because there are so many different aspects and it is the rare person who can cover most or all of them.
As far as illustrators go there is (in no particular order)Kenny Youngblood;Steve Stanford;Nat Quick(although his specialty is warbirds he does some kickass cars)and our own Jeff Norwell.
Pete Millar was(and is to me anyway)the hands-down best automotive cartoonist ever.A lot of the modern ones are great(including the guy who does those crazy cars for the Kanter catalogs)but there is just something about Pete's work that makes him stand alone.
I won't even begin to get into airbrush artists because there are literally thousands of them doing top shelf work.Just my opinion folks.
