I read on anther forum that Dynabeads are actually just repackaged ceramic or zircon ball mill media. Anybody know where a source would be?

    Thanks

Offroad guys like to use quality (.20-.25g or higher) plastic airsoft BBs in place of Dynabeads; though I'm not sure how this would translate over to relatively small bias tires compared to big Super Swampers.

It says those are highly polished. I think the dyna beads are irregular so they stick to the tire better instead of rolling continuously. Dam things are so small its hard to see them.

I found a place that has it for $9.54 a pound but the smallest bag is 55 pounds. :-( You can order smaller amounts but there is a $20 charge on top then.

Have been using 250 BB's/tire for ~ 3oz. They work good; seem to hold up fine in the 5K miles they have been in there (had the tire off to patch it).

Neat stuff but why not just buy Dyna Beads?

So, spend $524.70, to get $40 in materials, and $515.16 in product to go on the shelf, or get rid of?

Yup. I have only resorted to Dynabeads on HUGE off-road tires, that would need about a pound of lead to get them in spec (and we can't get lead in CA anymore).

I'm still intrigued by the dynabeads. The big truck guys say they only work in the big tires, not the little hot rod stuff. I'd like to hear from guys who saw results in a hot rod.

Had 'em in my Harley and have in my Honda, they work great!
I see no reason why they wouldn't work on car tires!

They will work, but they work better on tires that have a greater distance between the rim and the tread.

Or sell it and make some $$$... but who would want to make $$$.

  17. Sell the extras in the cl***ified here or at local swap meets or whatever, for $20 a pound until you've paid for the bag. Problem solved. You might not make the money back overnight, but you can't beat ending up with no cost and enough left over for a couple more cars. I doubt the stuff goes bad on the shelf.

My Willys has 16" x 8.5" US Indy five spokes and those ****ers will only take stick on wheel weights - which keep falling off and the car becomes undriveable. After three years of having the wheels rebalanced by the tire store I broke down and bought some Dynabeads - they are a ***** to get itno the tire but since then no problems except they tend to clump together if the car sits for a while - live over the winter. A few miles and they shake themselves back and work fine....

Cool... I'm getting ready to buy a set of firestones for my 40 Ford, the 16x4's were pretty rough so I'm not hopeful they'll balance easy. I think I'm gonna try them out.

I use them on my T-bucket. The tires are 18.5 x 31 Hoosier Pro Street radials. The beads gave me the best quality balance in the 17 years (and 7 sets of tires) I've had the car.
