Here is the car that started it all for me... It used to be flat black. Then painted.. Sbc auto, 9 inch rear. Would love to find this car, my uncle sold it a few years back. Terrible picture .

I de-rodded it some today. I put the bumpers and factory lights back on it... I kinda like it with the original stuff back on it.

    looks good, my fever rises

  6. Keep the bumper, and keep those lights exactly where they are!
I think the rake and supercharged flathead are all this car needs to be cool.

Rolled it outside this morning so I could get a better look. I gotta tweak the bumper a lil on the divers side. But I think I'm happy with how it turned out

Exactly. Nobody's going to mistake this for a stocker, and it's got nothing to prove!

I would love to know how people started these cars back in the day on 6v.... I have a rebuilt starter and even with the belts off my charger the bastard is still slow at cranking ... No way it will ever fire that way. Even with the 6v battery I just blew $100 on! I really didn't wanna convert this car to 12 volt

Ive never used anything but 6volts on a flathead. Clean connections and 00 welding cable with ends made are huge. Also make sure the starter to block connection is clean of paint and junk. Others may disagree but my flathead start just fine.

2/0 that is. Not Double aught.

  18. All of mine are six volts and start fine. I have not spent $100 on a six volt battery, yet. I have welding cables as battery cables. They do not spin real fast when everything is in good shape but they always start. I buy my batteries at O Reilly's. The six volt batteries do not last as long as 12 volt. maybe a year and a half.

You can always tell a flathead by the noise the starter makes. They even sound slow but cool.

I have not tried a 6 volt golf cart battery. I do not think they a have enough cranking amps. I am not real sure about this but someone said they did not like Golf cart batteries in automobiles.

Sturgis, i have an optima that is going on its 5th year. I also like napas 7224d (i think thats the number). I agree they sound right ;)

  20. I run my 54' original 6 volt chevy dump off of a 12 volt battery with the terminals reversed. It really rolls over that way, haven't had a problem with it. tried to find some info on doing it this way and really came up with none, but it works for me.

im going to make sure this is all good on mine tonight and we will see how it works. it jsut seemed slow.. and im used to 6v ol old tractors that is really slow!

a quality 6v battery at carquest is 98$ and they last me more than 5 years in my antique tractors. i have switched some to an 8v battery which works great for a while but the GEN can keep up to it.

    Thank you!

  25. jumpinjoe, hey small world it seems. I'm in pittsburgh and titusville 4/3 days a week. I pass through franklin twice a week. I head up to the friday night car cruises in Erie every once in a while. hotrodderhag, you have 666 posts!!!!! so your not far from slippery rock right? got fam over there. Can't wait to see your ride out.

  26. AS stated above, use HUGE cable and be sure you have good connections. Ground directly to block too. Golf cart batteries (like Trojan 105) are a deep cycle battery and don't do well for cranking. You should be fine with what you have.
