Well Im getting to the point on my 31 Sedan on 32 rails project I need to decide on a motor. I've always been a Ford guy & work for Ford. My last Model A had 400 hp 351 W. My options with motors I have is either an early 327 with Dart heads or 1969 Boss 302 thats been siting in corner of my Dads garage for 25+ years. Or sell both & build something else. Either one I would run a blower or webers. I posted pics of start of new car & then a pic of what I like when its done.

  4. Sell both, add a few thousand and build a blown 430 MEL. Cool factor + a **** load

keep the boss, sell the 327

don't know what to tell you on the motor

Boss engine would be pretty cool to do a high rpm engine but obviously not that great for a street deal. Solid roller, webers, 5 or 6spd, plenty of gear. Sounds like a road race motor already :D

This is what I thinking now too! Webers or maybe blower. I can't remember seeing any Hot rods with Boss motors.

Yeah, but not a (*puke*) 302. Y-block, FE, MEL. There's a whole world of cool Ford engines out there that aren't those ugly little ******s. Ford totally lost its looks in the engine bay after the Mustang came out - like suddenly accountants took over.

1968 Boss 302? Seriously? Prototype or typo? If it's a 68 "Boss" 302 then you have an engine worth more than your whole car.

Ford in Ford aside, I guess anything but the lowly and pathetic 327 you mentioned would be accepted anywhere, some even getting you props and praise beyond your wildest expectations. Please tell us more about this 68 Boss...

**** sorry typo 1969 Boss 302. Guess thats what happens when your trying to work & be on HAMB at same time. My Dad picked the motor up in the 80's with a 289 hipo k motor from a buddy. Has been sitting in corner of garage covered up ever since. More looking I do would love to find a cross boss intake setup!

A real Boss 302 is worth some money, and not the greatest street motor.

Ford in a Ford. A SBC looks too plain Jane in a good looking non Chevy Hot Rod. Kinda like the owner didn't really care much for the car or took the easy way out.

What has happened? You guys want him to use a nontraditional late sixtys mustang motor over the more traditional early 327? I know the sbc has been overused but thats not because their no good. Its not like its a 350 with billet or a 305 with zoomies. There arnt many ford overhead valves i would leave a hood off of. With all that said keep both and build a blown nailhead.

The car will have hood and sides. I was just trying to think of a motor alittle different from what everyone else has. Since I've always been a Ford guy hard to switch over to something every other Hot Rod has(small block chevy). These are just motors I have, I could sell and get something different just hard choice. Nice flathead would be cool but not sure cost on that.

I wouldn't use an actual Boss 302 on anything but a Boss 302 car. you could sell that motor and build whatever you wanted (within reason)

Use the block, sell the heads, get some aftermarket Cleveland heads with Yates style chambers and smaller ports, 3.25 Crank, .030 over, 10-1 compression.

    Tex,
Thats the plan build something that can out run bens car & my old sedan. Which we will find out after King of clubs which is faster. I have the 327 with Dart heads from Mikey that I planned on running a 6-71 blower on it. Just having hard time with chevy since I'm a Ford guy. I guess since I'm running hood with sides you won't be able to see motor. I'm bringing Boss 302 up to my shop this weekend to clean & run #s to see if I can find car it belongs to on Boss 302 registry.

Flathead, nailhead or Hemi are the only engines I would consider.

    Like it.

Trumpets out of the hood 1-2"? Or under everything?

It is kind of tough on any 30s car to decide on 60s tech . . . its kind of a "dare to be different" view which probably isn't inline with the majority of the HAMB.

But, like you said, everyone's got a model A/32 with a SBC and 3x2s and lake pipes and clear fuel lines and a quick change rear etc . . .

Y-Block. An FE or an MEL would be super cool but they're super big and heavy too.

I wish! But don't think that would fit under hood or selling both motors would cover that. LOL When I was a kid the speed shop my dad hung out at had a Cammer sitting on showroom.

Under hood only show off when I want to, keep people guessing.
