Kustom Model A cowl ideas.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by merctruck, May 21, 2013.

  1. I am looking for Kustom ideas to do to the cowl of my 29 Model A sedan. I want something kind of wild with that 60's show car feel. Any help would be great. Thanks

  2. Stock fire wall and A pillar angle. Paint will most likely be a light gold. I would say for the most part keep the original shape just add to it. Not really sure just looking for ideas or old pics.

I think it would be cool for you to have the St.Louis [IMG]skyline painted in your cowl...

  4. Ha. No thanks. I was looking more for metal work ideas. I.E. scoops, Frenching, or ???

I recommend a cowl vent near the drivers feet

  6. That's a good idea. Looking for a little more over the top but still may use that also as the Midwest summers get a bit out of hand.

  7. Why is it you never saw much done with the cowls? Has everyone out there been has stumped as I am on this for the last 50+ years?

Is the rest of the car going to be 60's show car modified? If not, a modified cowl is going to look out of place.

  12. I would like to move that direction in the future but for now just gold paint and a white tuck and roll top.

  14. Some had side lovers

There's not a lot to do with it.
Forget its a A cowl and design something new or pretend you don't have one.
Start with your doors and windshield and draw in the forward part as something entirely different. One of three things will happen. You'll be declared a genius and become famous , or you'll build a rat rod or you'll end where Henry did.

  15. The cowl. You know the part in between the engine and the windshield where the gas tank used to be. I was not aware of any other cowl on a Model A?

    Attached Files:

  16. That's a hood,
It's attached to the firewall and the fire wall is attached to the cowl, leg bone connected to the ....

  17. If you see me start to move in the direction of making it look like a ugh (hate even saying it) rat rod please slap me before it gets to far!!

Its getting pretty close with the front axle and wheels out in front of radiator...

  19. Really? I was unaware that a suicide front end was something new? I was pretty sure I had seen it done all the way back to the early 60's and probably before that if we do some digging.

Don't mess with it. 28/29 cowls are the best there is. JMO

  23. Again that is a hood that has been modified not a cowl.

Make it look like the 30-31 cowl and it will look much better

  25. I always thought the 28/29 looked better than the 30/31. Just my opinion.

Whenever all the weight hangs on the pivots of teh cross spring, that is consiodered a suicide. The title comes from the idea that if the pivot lets loose, you have commited suicide.

  27. I know what a suicide front is. I was saying it is not something new it has been around for a long time. Tulsa was trying to indicate that with the suicide front that makes it a rat rod.

The rat rodders have staked a claim that the suicide front end is theirs .It may have been used on T-Buckets starting in the late 60s .
