No sir... 2 inch primary headers . See above posts with pictures. They fill up the area that the inner fenders "would "have gone.

    Thank you Bonesy,
In keeping with the "Mean" theme, I have been working on getting a pair of 60's style MT valve covers to replace the Obrien ones I originally picked for the project. They have been back ordered for some time and arrived last week. I spent part of the weekend prepping, painting and wiping off paint on the fins with lacquer thinner.
I look forward to putting these bad boys on the Hemi.
    Regards,
    George

Nice build, a louvered roof. Interesting.

Where will the water go that is obviously going to end up going through the louvers ?

There will be an inner roof underneath the louvers. This inner panel will act as a big square gutter and channel the water to two drain hoses ,IE: down spouts that exit through the floor. The same issue applies for the louvers in the deck lid. Holes will have to be drilled to allow water to drain. While I dont plan on leaving the car out in the rain.... you know it is going to happen sooner or later! No hood sides and 8 holes in the hood isn't going to help either!

I see the guys driving cross country without a roof of any type and think, how crazy are they? YEP...Im just as bad! grin.

My 48 has all the creature comforts, power everything plus heat and a/c. This one is the opposite.

    regards,
    George

P.S. The entire interior with the sole exception of the seat, will be ALUMINUM PANELS

Josh has moved on over to the drivers side for the wood, door jamb and hinge install before he gets out the giant can opener to add the drivers door "X" brace.

Lot's of effort to get the second door hung!

....Then door tops, deck lid re assembly , gas cap recess etc etc etc smile

Josh has a great work ethic and is relentless in his efforts to keep knocking down one item at a time.

Rex is going to have a chance to pitch in next week. He will add to the front of the hood to bring the hood out to the grill shell lines that were changed when pushing the bottom of the grill out ever so slightly for ground clearance.

    Regards,
    George

Thank you Paul. Here's a couple of pictures of the finished inner stucture and door tins that Josh has just completed this morning. Very Clean! If you will zoom in on the underside of the roof fill panel, you can see the labor of love needed to lay out the louvers.
    Regards,
    George

As nice as that roof is and even with the plans for a catch-drain pan underneath it, I still don't thiink its that great an idea.

There will be a wet area under the roof that can never be cleaned out or refinished. No mater how well it is built or drained.

Ahhh, ye of little faith! Who said that it isn't going to be removable. IT IS,...just so that it can be cleaned/ serviced as required....
For the record: As already stated in a previous post.....
I don't think that putting holes in the roof or the deck lid is that great of an idea either. But after all, It is my car ....and I like it...and TO ME, it's way cool!... and besides that, ..... it's already done!

Well I like your idea and like you said: "It's your car, you like it and that's all that counts".... Go for it I say.....

Ok George, you are ahead of me. :) I'll be interested in seeing the details of the catch basin, the removability etc. :)

It looks really neat. Or cool if you like and that shows my age :D ;)
I say go for it too, which is kind of redundant as he already has :D

I like how it looks, just want to see what will give it some practicality.

I know it's a hot rod but there can be a little bit of practicality built in :)

Josh finished up the "X" brace install and got tthe door skin back on the drivers door. Please see attached pics of hinges, door hung with good straight belt line and ready for door tops.
Still fighting with getting the doors done,.....but almost there.
    Hang in there Josh!

Josh worked with the drivers door hoop today along with getting the new latch in. We are NOT going to use an original door handle. We are going to use the small arm as pictured below. In addition, there will be the needed saftey dead bolt! We are still talking about what to do for a door pull. As the door panels will be aluminum, we have to decide on fabricated pulls, pull slots or maybe leather? Just thinking out loud for now as that's not a critical decision at this point in time. As Josh says,..."it will speak to us when it's time" smile.

A return spring, A couple of rods, some cutting and welding.....a little trial and error ...just a little more finessing and it will be time to button her up... whewie!

NICE NEW LATCHES THAT ACTUALLY WORK>Thank you Josh

Note the extra long hardware...I am always poking fun at the Custom Auto Boys on their hardware stock. It is all Hex Head Long and Extra Long, Grade 5 . I like to tease them about buying a little stainless and using lock washers. I'm probably going to get gigged for tweaking them here. LOL

Thank you on behalf of Josh. He sent me an updated picture of the drivers side door progress this morning. ( see below) I am not sure whom will be more excited about seeing these doors finished...Josh or Myself?
It has been a long , tedious process and Josh has hung in there to get it right. The car has had so much effort in making the details right that skimping on the doors would have been a travesty. So ...drivers door top will be added today and gapped tomorrow to wind up the doors! WHEWIE,..almost there and sooooo happy about it. Thanks Josh!

HEADER UPDATE:. "Matt" of "Stainless Steel Headers" phoned to let us know that we are up next in the line to have the mock up headers Josh built a month ago converted to the real deal. If you missed the posts, you build your header mock ups out of PVC and send them off to the guys in Fargo to have them hand built out of stainless. If you are interested: http://www.stainlessheaders.com/ They have a good set of demonstration videos you might take the time to watch. I also need to say thank you again to Andy at Hell's Gate Hot rods that water jet cut my header flanges. http://www.hellsgatehotrods.com/
I chose to provide these to the Header folks as I wanted oval port flanges and it was easier for me to make it happen and let them focus on building headers. They did offer to have it done, but it's race season and I knew that they were swamped! IE: just better TO HANDLE MYSELF as I wanted to put the flanges on my heads for a first hand check for fit ,BEFORE the primary tubes were welded in. The whole process is 8-10 weeks and having fit issues after the fact would be a bit of a pickle.

Matt is going to take a few pictures so that I might give him credit for his effort. I will post them when received.

    Regards,
    George

It is absolutely Hallelujah time for Josh and I. The dreaded doors have been 100% rebuilt, x braced internally and gapped. WHEWIE.
Please find the pictures below of a close up of each side as well as a side shot of each side. Josh might need to work one gap a little more before paint time. I am so very happy with the effort. The coupe has an excellent attitude.
    THANK YOU JOSH!

Rex is going to work on extending the hood to match the grill as well as adding the 34 commercial headlights on modified Model A perches this week. Josh will work on a perimeter frame for another project. I will finish up a set of wheel center caps and take them up Friday when I visit for the Good Guys car show.

    Regards,
    George

Here are some before and after pictures from Rex this morning....
He still has to dye chem and scribe the gaps before grinding and filing smooth.
    Good progress, thank you Rex.

Twisted pipe update... Matt at Stainless Steel Headers has finished up the fabrication of individual pipes. THe next step is to grind the welds smooth before going through a series of sand paper grit . Starting with 150 and going through 600. Then it's polishing time before assembling to the header flanges and collectors. Any additional finish work will be after receipt. I am happy with the oval transitions.
