Hirsch Blue, I think. Not the same as GM blue. Anyone else agree?

  6. It all depends what you want it to be
Is this a correct original restoration?
If not-paint it and detail it in colors that compliment the rest of the car.

I would paint it red but that has been done to death too. Not painting the engine.. just curious on what color it should be? Did Chevy put any 6 Cylinders the 210 that was orange? Where could a orange engine come from???

Originally it would have been that blue/gray color in Hoop98s photo. There were no 235's painted orange at the factory, so someone has repainted your engine at some point in the last 60 years.

As mentioned, who cares? Paint it whatever color you like.

  16. I have been using AMC metallic blue on the last few engines I have done and IMHO I think it looks pretty good.

    It does.

When did they start painting the engines orange? I thought only trucks came in orange?

Nothing wrong with a red engine. I like red engines. But I'm just trying to figure out if someone swapped the engine in the car for a later one.
Is their any thing specific I should look for on the engine? Any numbers? I think ive seen some numbers on the side of the block.

Passenger side of block, toward the rear. A block casting number, and also a date code casting, such as C 28 4 (which would mean March 28, 1954).

I couldn't find any numbers near the rear of the engine on the passenger side. Just up front.

I found the casting number but I believe I have to remove that generator or starter to see it clearly.

If you don't know the starter from the generator, why worry about what color it is:cool:

Well, the casting number on the cylinder head makes it no older than '56.....of course, by now, any 53-'62 head could have been bolted to any '53-'62 block.
