I got one of the******** 8 balls and put it on my transfer case lever, i used a oil filter wrench for a import and some shop towels. That worked just fine at a low speed and 3 bit changes to the desired I.D. then tapped. They guy that bought it still has it on there to this day.

2 pieces of ply scrap, 1 1/2 hole saw. hold the ball with the ply scraps and put it in the vice. I used my HAMBer drill (small) It's still lay'n around here somewhere.

  3. i just wrapped one in a rag and clamped it in a vice, then used a wood paddle bit to get a flat spot for the jam nut to seat on. then used the the pilot hole from that bit to start the regular bit. i then drilled and tapped a 1/4 pipe******* (close) to 3/8 16 and glued it in.

Hold it in a 3 jaw chuck in a lathe. Drill and tap it with ordinary high speed tools.

Heck, we got three more pages to go before you can call that, lol.

Heat the shifter with a torch, then shove the ball on it, most of it should stay on there.

Just did one for the '38 last week. Wrapped it in a shop towl, clamped it in my drill vice and drilled away. Tapped it for 5/16 fine thread and spun it on the shift lever. If it were any simpler they would have women doing it.:D

I chucked mine up in the lathe and used a center drill. They're like an M&M. Hard candy shell but soft in the middle.

I've drilled 2, #13 pool balls, one for me another for a friend. Just put it in my drill press, wrapped in a towel, drilled and tapped for the shift lever threads and added a locking nut under it and that's it, really cool shift knob that matches my paint scheme.
