Has anyone heard of the Leese-Neville Transistor Ignition System or better, used one? By the box and manual it looks to be a 50's-60's ignition system booster. A friend of mine is cleaning out his fathers garage and I found it. It looks neat but does anyone know if it is useful for performance or what it may be worth? It's new in box and if it's useful I'd like to give him a fair price for it. I'm really interested in it because it's neat as hell. Thanks, Chris
Found this on eBay, it might give you an idea on the price... http://www.ebay.com/itm/1960s-NOS-L...Parts_Accessories&hash=item5d3adec354&vxp=mtr
I could buy a a whole new ignition system for that... Is it really worth $500? Does anyone know? That'd be enough to screw a friend over for. Kidding.
Ignition systems have come a very way since the 60's. If yours is like the ebay unit then it might be best suited for a display case. As to value, it is only worth what someone is willing to pay, in this case, you. .
It would be to a restorer of some historic race car, particularly a road racer that is documented as having raced that way, but I never heard of one in such a use. I don't think NASCAR guys ever used them or that it was legal in that series. Drag racers in that era ran factory ignition, Mallory distributors with points or some kind of magneto. I'm guessing therefore he's sucker fishing.
