    Black pepper is best.

  10. My friend owns a radiator shop and on small leaks they use a clear epoxy.

Radiator epoxy rad shops use it all the time on aluminum rads.

check out Justice Bros. stop leak and watch their utube video. They say the product can be rinsed from the system and will not plug things up. I used it and am impressed.

I heard aluminum radiators can't be fixed which is why I got copper/brass when mine sprung a leak.

Punched a small hole in a brand new aluminum rad before I even drove the car. Took it to a GOOD welder and he tigged it. That was about six years ago.

  15. Of course you can fix aluminum rads, it's just a bit trickier. IMO it's worth it for the extra cooling.

I've seen a bunch of circle track boys fix their aluminum radiators between heats with JB weld.

Sorry guys copper/brass has a greater cooling coefficient then aluminum. If its a weight issue go aluminum.

All that stop leak is not good for the engine. You will plug up more than you want.
Roy D Mercer says butt putty would work.

X2 ^ JB Weld works. Scuff with scotch brite and clean with brake clean or carb cleaner. Wait 24 hours unless your heat is next... :D

  24. Yes it does. But aluminum will always cool better than copper/bass because of the way an aluminum rad is constructed. A lot better.

  25. That actually is a pretty good repair that lasts......

Add in the fact that aluminum radiators usually have a lot more fins per inch than copper/brass and you can see why aluminum radiators will cool better than traditional rads.

  27. My Grandpa taught me about egg white. Works similar to pepper. You have to make sure to remove all the yolk though.

I grew up on a farm, when I was a kid grandpa had a rad leak on his combine one time. He told me to run to the house and get an egg white. Plugged the leak and the rad never leaked again for 9 years when he sold it.

  29. i NEVER recommend stop leak for any reason... BUT, i've had a number of customers have great results with AlumaSeal for a stop gap fix depending on the size of the fix.

best bet, as has been said before is to find a solid radiator shop that can handle it.

once its fixed, do a real good reverse clean and flush, and get all the crap out of there.

I used Bars Leaks to fix a minor leak in my AFCO alum radiator. It worked for a year or 2.
Later, when I used it for a larger stress crack, it didn't work.
I forked over the big bucks for a copper/brass Walker and, once I got over the sticker shock over the price, I've been happy.
Could someone please be more specific about reasons for not using stop leak? I.E. what problems it could cause, if any?
