RentA.Trip, sorry for your lose. Your father no doubt knew Gil Belcher, I met Gil several years ago at a Dodge brotehrs Club meeting, where it's against good policy to talk hotrod. Somehow Gil mentioned haveing one and I questioned him after the meeting. He owned a '32 roadster, which he sold to join the Marines in '43. He told me of racing at places he was sure I had never heard of, like El Mirage. His eyes lit up like a little kid. He even sent me a picture of his '32. Thanks to ALL veterans. Some gave their lives. And some like Gil gave up their hotrod to serve. He lived well into his 80's.

Now that is a pretty girl in a lovely dress. I remember girls dressed like that at our high school dances and they smelled like fresh flowers. Ah yes.

To learn the rest of the story on this Cadillac show car, use the HAMB search function to find the thread "I bought a 1961 Cadillac Eldorado GM factory custom off Craigs List". The car is owned by HAMBer Nads, who created an excellent thread detailing how he acquired the car and brought it back to life.

Nads' car made quite a splash at the recent Amelia Island show. The current issue (June 6, 2013) of Old Cars Weekly covered the event and gave some well-deserved ink to the car and owner Nadeem Kahn.

    See? I told ya that it wasn't a B-57!:D
To be honest, I had totally forgotten about the GAF-built Canberra's. And I'll have to take your word for where it was taken. For all I could tell it was Pittsburgh.
As for the low pass, it's nice to see that it's not just us American's who take ridiculous risks. In the OP, it was noted that the USAF lost a lot of planes during the 50's to stunts that we would call stupid. To my way of thinking, it showed just how aggressive combat pilots were. That's good and bad at the same time.
Combat pilots, of every nation have to be aggressive if they are to survive. Some just need to use better judgment, though.
    Thanks for the info, Doc.

WOW! Great pics, SouthUrn. I've never seen those stills before and they are far more detailed than the movies I've seen.
Especially the one showing the perfectly circular shock wave.
Where in the world did you find those?

Oh yeah, the pics of the B-47's are also awesome. The only one that I've seen before was the second one with the reflections on the inside of the canopy. The others are new to me.

I had completely forgotten about Schwann's. I agree with you about the quality and service, but their prices are a little too high for my meager budget.:(
But I have a hunch that within about 10 years, we are going to see a resurgence of delivery because people are so busy, (or too lazy), that they simply don't have the time to do the shopping.
I think that you'll be able to place an order online, have it filled and delivered to your door, either by the store, or a separate delivery service. How much will this add to your bill? No clue. But I think it will happen before too long.
At least it'll make the stores and streets less crowded. Isn't that a good thing?

This is in keeping with SouthUrn's posting of the Operation Crossroads and B-47 photos.

Operation Doorstep was a test of the survivability of vehicles, houses and other structures in an atomic blast.
    According to Wikipedia:

Upshot-Knothole Annie was a nuclear weapons test conducted by the United States as part of Operation Upshot-Knothole. It took place at the Nevada Test Site on 17 March, 1953, and was nationally televised.[1]
Operation Doorstep was a civil defense study conducted by the Federal Civil Defense Administration in conjunction with Annie. It studied the effect of the nuclear blast on two wooden frame houses, fifty automobiles and eight bomb shelters designed for residential use.
The administration concluded that if windows were left open to prevent the car collapsing on its occupants a car would be "relatively safe" from a small nuclear bomb if at least ten blocks away from the hypocenter. The homes in the study were constructed in such a way as to minimize the thermal effects of Annie, with an eye towards determining if, in the absence of fire, the basement of the closer home — 3,500 feet (1,100 m) from the hypocenter — might shelter its occupants, while the second — at 7,500 feet (2,300 m) — could remain standing.[2] Both homes performed as expected under the conditions of their construction.

I thought that you all might be interested in these photos of the tests, before and after.

Huh! Never heard of it! I'll have to check it out. Since I don't currently have a vehicle, it might be something that I can use.
    Thanks! :D

Hmmm, Looks like some film suffered radiation exposure as there seems to be a definate haze in the lower right of many of the photos. Those are great photos.

SWI66, Any change that you have a larger copy of this? I think it would make for an interesting read, even if it is fiction.

Thanks, I am so used to the '57 and later style Eldorado Brougham that I had completely forgotten about the '55 version!

Some think that all of these photos were staged for the benefit of the camera. Not likely. Most were taken as they happened.
I love the look that the Kodachrome and Ektachrome produced. The deep color saturation and depth of field is what really makes these photos. Kodak has stopped making both films recently and that's a shame.
I wish that I could take digital pics that looked like that without having to resort to Photoshop or the like.
One thing about them, most times they will make you take a second look at them.
Well, they do make me want to look.

^ GREAT photos. I did a tour on the USS Tarawa (LHA-1) in the early 90's. We hauled a crap load of Marines (ARG) to Desert Storm and back. I was always fascinated by the history of that battle and these are amazing photos. Thanx for posting them. Gary.
