Recently purchased Sedan project. turns out that it is not a coupe like I thought. Pics of what it did look like, with mix'n'match paint job. Also, pics of now in gray primer. Had to get it together enough for pics required by my insurance company. still need body work, real paint, upholstery, side glass, etc. on low budget, even used plastic $10 chrome outside rearview mirrors from summit racing for now. I know this will upset some but, it does have a small block Chevy with turbo 350 and Camaro posi rearend. plan to do mild custom/hot rod driver. have to find plenty of parts, like side trim. also, need to figure out what year engine and rearend are.

  3. I can live with a SBC in a 52-54 but for the life of me why use a electric fan?,,there is ample room for a mechanical fan and I personally think it would look better.

BTW,you need a new fuel filter,,that one is pretty bad. HRP

yep, does run strong. I have not had time to go through lots of details, like fuel filter. filter is not as clogged as looks in pic. came with elec fan, not as much room for regular fan as it looks in pic. but, have not given up on regular fan.

  6. Nice looking car, love the old two door fords.
Might want to check out the 52-59 FORD GROUP.

  7. There is more than enough room for a 6 blade fan. HRP

    Neat car...I like it !

Can't see if the taillights have been reworked by the pix, but a cool "old school" trick at that time on the '53-'54 Fords was to straight-cut off the center "cone" on that taillight (leaving it open so the bulb shows through) and screw in a '53-'56 Olds '88 lense to the body of the original. Inexpensive, cool, easy, looks almost stock.

All the best to you with this...it'll be a GREAT driver !

Looks like a great running project and if it runs good enjoy it

  12. Jeff,,I'm not to worried about the HP loss but after I melted a electric fan to the radiator in Columbus,Ohio some 560 miles from home in 1988 I have a strong distaste for them.

Plus if you forget to turn it off it will kill your battery if it is wire to run with the ignition switch turned of,,,ask Merlin.:D HRP

I've got a '54 Ford Coupe. (short top & quarter windows)
Your chrome and stainless sure is nice...

That Chevy looks like it grew there, nice install.

Mine has a new 406 (F-E) and 'extreme duty' 3 speed toploader with a Jeep tower/stick.
Reminds me of the 'old days'...

Yep, that one is a 2 door sedan (just like mine) and not a coupe. Looks nice though, looking forward to updates.

learn something new every day - have not done any research on different '54 body styles. just went by title info, and who knows if that was ever right. Thanks. for those concerned about not having a mechanical fan looks like only room for a 14" - 15". not many out there but, will keep looking. of course, a fan shroud will also have to be figured in too.

Kool ride, and I'm not one of the ones that's going to give you shit for the SBC. I will piss everybody else off saying this but I think more cars should have them. What's wrong with being able to find parts in a pinch when you're on a road trip? Nothing at all. Try that with a flathead, nailhead, hemi, etc. You break down with one of those on the side of the road and you are FUBAR. SBC's are for people who ACTUALLY DRIVE their cars.

  17. I'm calling BS,I drove my flathead powered 32 thousands of miles and never left me on the side of the road, but to say SBC's are for people that ACTUALLY DRIVE their cars is nothing more that your opinion! HRP

I ran a separate fuse block when I rewired that has the fan,A/C and electric fuel pump accessories separated from the main switch with the key out it gets no juice each also has it's own relay there is also an 80 AMP relay off the accessory terminal of the ignition switch. When in doubt, add a relay ;) Adding the relays off the dimmer switch sure brightens up the headlights(common Ford complaint)

Looks good. No shame in a driver. Too many "hotrods" never leave the garage.

I've always had a soft spot for that body style and yours is starting to look great and it RUNS AND DRIVES! That trumps all of my project cars at the moment and those of a lot of the guys who would dis you for buying a Ford with a non Ford engine.

54 thru 56 Fords came with a "splash pan", fitted between the frame rails, and behind the "K" member. It was a 2 piece item and fitted around the oil pan. It kept road splash off the engine, as well as directing airflow under the car, instead of up into the engine compartment. Over heating, or at least, running hotter than "normal" happens when those were left off.

    I wish I still had the 54 Customline coupe I owned !!!

Didnt you know that the only vehicles with high miles on them are SBC powered? I read it that way right here on the HAMB;)

Where can you get a sbc with high miles?,the only 2 350s I ever messed with did not go too much longer then about 120,000 before being junk. I put many more miles on a sbf then could with a sbc,the way I figure a motor is good one if you get one with around 100,000 on it and at least double that without major repairs, those 2 junk early to mid 70s 350 I had would not do that. If I were ever to mess with a GM V8 again its going to be a Olds since I put many miles on a 100,000 mile rocket too.

  26. those clear plastic fuel filters are a fire hazard, They commonly crack and squirt fuel into the engine bay. install a solid metal fuel filter somewhere between the fuel tank & fuel pump. A aftermarket fuel filter shouldnt have fuel pump pressure on it. Im a big fan of the sintered Bronz fuel filters that came stock on many chevys. It was located in the carb inlet.

  27. Ive owned a dozen of those 55 & 56,s and none of them has the splash pan your describing, I worked in a junkyard back in the sixties and pulled apart dozens of 55 & 56 fords and dont remember ever seeing any splash pans. Now a 56 chevy has some.
