I will be gathering at the gas station, at the corner of Grange Hall and Dixie, about 8am. We will fuel up, purchase food and drinks, and be headed to Davisburg about 830-840am, for the 20 minute ride there. The weather kept our caravan numbers down last year, but it has been known to reach 25 plus in years past. Either see you at the station, or at the show... should be a great time as usual!

What time do the gates open for registration? I hope to be there with my '64 A-100 van

  9. Line up after 9...see ya there!

  10. I hope to get one of the cars figured out by then...if not I can grab a ride with someone.. I appreciate the offer..I think the F100 may have been a bad coil.. would run fine and then act like it had no fuel . but changed all filters got fuel in the filter and carb, pulled line coming off tank and got gas there too... hmmm..changed the coil out but haven't got to test it out yet.had a bud with a FE that did the same thing, car would run great for about 10 minutes and then start cutting out..replaced the coil.. all good

Not trying to be a Gloomy Gus, but, Weather Channel is saying a 60% chance of rain, with the potential for severe thunderstorms...

One of just a few careers that people get paid to guess.

  18. Sounds like the gas cap may not be vented. Most of the bad coils i've had either quit completely or break down under hard acceleration.

  19. Pulled the cap off...no change. I'm hoping coil cause that's when it would stammer..higher RPM and after the truck warmed up. Friends 64 Merc did the same thing, thought it was fuel system, plenty of fuel in the carb and coming from the pump, after 10 minutes the car would fall on it nose, put a test light on the coil when the car warmed up the coil woul die.. I don't know how old the coil is on the ruck so it got replaced anyway

  20. My brother-in-law had a real weord one with his 73 Ranchero one time.Had a 302 2v and it would start and idle fine. The minute you started driving it and tried to accelerate it fell flat on it's face. He worked on it for weeks with my other brother-in-law who was a mechanic and they were tearing their hair out trying to figure out what was wrong.
I stopped in one day while they were working on it and noticed the problem immediately.Boy were they pissed when I fixed it! Turned out the hood insulation was loose and getting sucked into the air filter when you accelerated.Ripped out the hood pad and it was fine!
Sometimes you just need another set of eyes on it to cure the problem.

    Tiki,
make sure you check the lead from the points to the coil through the dist. body. The vacuum advance pulls and lets off, so the wire has to do the same thing. I have found a number of times the wire looks good but has a break in it from the movement. Check the ground as well from the points plate to the body of the dist.

    See you boys on Sat.

  22. I don't know what engine you're working but yeah - if it's a Ford, that lead wire going thru the distributor case would wear thru the rubber insulator and rub on the case & ground out. You can't see it unless ya take it out, they usually wore thru on the bottom. Sold a lot of 'em back in my Ford Parts guy daze. . . Good luck finding the gremlin!

  23. No points got an accel conversion in it. 352 FE is what I'm working with. Hoping to mess with it tonight. Rain rain go away ha a

You need a new distributor. I had this same problem last summer in my 34. Would start up and run fine for awhile then cut out. Had a mallory distributor in it then rebuilt a stock one to an HEI. Haven't had a problem since. Driven it 1000 miles so far this spring with aa 800+ mile round trip to Tourque Fest.

    Hey Tiki,
on another note...are there any restrictions on cars at Sins of Steel... Absolutely NO billet etc.
If it's still looking like 70/80% chance of rain I might not want to be in the roadster. Just makes for a really looonnng Day.

    Is this OK????

  26. Well the traditional police would arrest you for those wheels...sorry... I cant promise anything....and rules are rules....sorry.. this is why working the gate can be tough.. I dig the car..just doesn't fit the show guidelines, and personally I don't think some of the over the top "hey look at the turd I put a bunch o bullshit on to make a rat rod" should get in either. Telling someone ahhh no your pride and joy doesn't get a pass is tuff. Sorry..maybe drive it over, see what happens, there's always spectator parking...plus ya can say ya came over in a old car...

    Well, Jeeezzz,
If I had only gotten the steelies done I could've stayed dry. We'll have to see what the weather brings. I've been wet in this before but it's a 3.5 hour drive home
