Super nice! Your cab has a nice forward slant... Makes me question setting my door window openings parallel with the ground.

    I'll take the second slice!

Great build... COE's are just plain awesome haulers. So much potential.

This is the start of our seat bracket. Started with straight tubing and use a tube bender to get all the right curves that we needed. Sorry didn't take any pictures of that process.

This is after Chris welded up all the bracing to make the final seat bracket.

Seat mounted to bracket and ready for a test fit.

Seats in the truck and the fit looks good. Will work on moving the base back a little to get it under the seat a little more. Made a template for the bottom detail to cover the seat bracket. Also planing on making a skirt for the seats.

That looks nice. Just make sure you have the front of the seat up lifted high enough to support your thigh. If the seat is too flat, your leg will get very tired on long trips. FYI - I used the space under my seats for my amp and an 8" subwoofer.

  7. Liking the look.

Good comments from Car Guy... maybe audio on one side & a removable slide out under the other with a tool kit or other stuff.
Fab up a flush face to conceal it & make it match the other side & hide contents?

PS: Lots of envy on your project.

Looks like there's enough room to make some slide out drawers for storage under those seats.

Just when I start to feel comfortable and confident about my metalwork and fabrication skill, you post another progress report on your truck. Everything you guys are doing is great, but you're making me look like a total hack!

    SPEECHLESS.....
What an awesome and useful build.
    Cheers....

  12. I've just read the whole thread. You're doing it right! I especially like the mocked-up box using building felt. Many builders make the mistake of using too small of a radius and then the box looks too new for the cab. I am building a sleeper for my coe project and used 8" radii on all corners, and I felt that was the absolute minimum, but I wanted a 36" sleeper and 2 8" radii only left 20" for a door. (once again a minimum)
As far as the mirror situation, bigger is better in traffic, (we all are familiar with the person that will drive along side us for miles in the blind spot looking the rig over) but the look of older, smaller mirrors is cool. I plan to run cameras on both sides and high over the back along with mirrors for legality. I plan to hide them in clearance light housings or something similar. Just an idea to think about!
Once again I love how this is progressing, keep it up.

Thank you Brian. I can tell you that you definitely are no hack. I've had a chance to look at your web page and have seen nothing that looks like a hack job to me. Love your Diamond T and the travel trailer.

Thank you. I have purchase a camera setup with two side cameras and one for the back. We also plan on incorporating the side cameras into the box somehow. Will be able to view them on a monitor in the truck that will drop down from the cabs ceiling. We want to keep the cab looking old school but with modern technology hidden out of sight. Will be running some mirrors, but haven't decided on what kind yet.

if this is the approach you're gonna use, then I'd run the original small spot mirrors on the long arms that these originally had.

They'd look the part, and b'sides...you couldn't see nuthin' outta them anyways! :D

Remember what's behind ya ain't in front of ya.......that's all I have to say about the mirror deal..

Had two of the rims powder coated in two different colors to see what would look the best. Both looked really nice but decided to go with the red.

Painted a little black on the fender to get the contrast from red to black.

We will add five more studs to the front to make it match the back setup.

I like the black also but the red will stand out better with the black fenders.

All I'm missing is the 19.5 trim rings that have been back order for 10 months now. I hope Rickson Tire will have them soon. If any one has a set I would be very interested in them.

  19. Yeah, but there always are expensive noises hiding behind you! LOL

Made the template for the seat skirt to get the layout for the sheet material.

Chris used the English wheel to give the parts some curves and the basic shape before he went to the bead roller to tip the upper lip. After he tip the lip he shrunk and stretched it till it match up with the template. Once the top was fitted he tig welded the bottom flange onto the skirt. This was Chris's first time making a piece like this and gave it 12 on difficulty with the scale being 1 to 10.

I give Chris a 12 on the final fit and finish. Still need to add the seat controls and the back seat adjustment lever and it will be done. How for the passenger side.

Beautiful job on the seat bases despite the difficulty in fabing them.
