I have it ran Into the intake manifold like the factory did . the car runs really good. I'm not to concerned about it. I threw the dwell meter on it and everything looks great. So we will see after a real road test

  6. You now have a blower the vac brake should be hooked up to the carb adapter you have on top of the blower for the brake to work correctly.....

  7. I was kind of thinking the same as you. The pressure should be positive in the manifold. I guess these blowers only produce about two pounds of boost. Maybe a water gauge( measures in inches of water ) could be hooked up to measure the vacuum or pressure at the manifold. I guess the manufacturer of the blower knows best.

Where do you hook up the Vacuum wipers and the Columbia rear end control? I think they would be between the blower and the carburetor.

I got a kick about a comment on another thread about these super chargers. The person stated that the only difference he saw was the exhaust sounded different when the car was idling. They are still cool

my $.02 on this. If you look closely at the manufacturers documents as far as brochures and advertisments, they show it as a basic bolt on unit... and they originally are designed for one carb. so there is no way to install a vac line to the adapter it didnt have. now on the other hand, my chager does have a small fitting hole in the back of the top aluminum housing. but it goes into the water jacket. i have no vaccume ports anywhere on it. so how would it work back in they day? beats me.. cause they bolted it on the maniflod. changed the pumps and stuff around and ran it. i did manage to talk to one guy that had a buddy with one on his 40 ford , he installed it around 49 from what he remembered., and all he can remember was it took a day to get it together, he did say he did remember never rejetting the carb or anything. its so hard with something this rare that no one has any experience with to figure out some small detail as to the vaccume line.

If you put in a small fitting at the base of the carb adapter you would get vacuum there. You could point it any direction you wanted, for esthetics. Maybe straight back.

I imagine the supercharger gets hot, so I'd suggest a short section of rubber hose for vibration isolation, a copper line near the 'charger, then back to rubber. Also maybe a reservoir if you can find a place to stash it.

  10. I remember a story my father told me ages ago. When he was a young man in his mid-twenties he bought a new '39 Ford Tudor Deluxe. He put one of these as he called them "butter churn" blowers on his car. Same type as you have. He said he was pretty disappointed with the results. He was just running the one carburetor. I seem to remember him saying that the kit also came with a dual exhaust set up but I could be wrong on that.

I am enjoying the build though. Keep up the good work! :D

Did some tinkering and came to the conclusion my plugs were junk. Replaced em and it starts great but won't rev. Def vaccume advance. So I started looking and I took one of the plugs out of the supercharger and found that it is a vaccume not a water plug. But wont that will pull way to much air to operate the distributor . .. ? When it is idling there is alot of vaccume at that port . Or should I just drill and tap the y adapter and use one side of it. ? Any how I drove it on the trailer and its ready for the exhaust shop tomorrow. The throttle linkage is way to stuff. It binds up and is a bitch to use. So I going to have to order some more linkage cams or else switch to a cable style . I'm not a fan of cable style but it would work ten times smoother

  13. You usually need less advance when you run a super charger.

Ok so would I adjust the brake in more ? That would be the only way I know how to get less

Well it's sitting at the exhaust shop. Gonna be a long impatient wait till tomorrow I'm afraid .. I put the battery down in the pass floor boards exactly opposite of how it was originally. It worked out great other than its gonna be a bastard to run the exhaust . We will have to see how it turns out.
Also , I had to reorder the master cylinder. They make two kinds. USA made and an overseas made. The USA made is on back order for a few weeks . So I got the other one and it should be here Friday. Then we will have brakes !!

I have a super charger just like yours. I am missing the crank shaft pulley and the water pump pulleys. Do you have some extra parts? I think the local machine shop can make the pulleys if I had a sketch with some dimensions. I am assuming the crank shaft pulley is the same diameter as the stock pulley , but I am not sure.

How do you adjust your belts?

Help will be greatly appreciated. The super charger has been sitting on a shelf because of the missing parts and now I am inspired because of your project.

    Thanks

I have everything you need. As long as you are using a 24 stud style flathead. . I have pumps and pulleys and gen brackets. P.m. Me and we can see what you need

I managed to get some things tied up this weekend. First off I ran all the brake lines and attached them to the bottom side of the frame. That's just how I preferred them. After that I installed all new wheel cylinders and brake hoses. Everything came out nice. Since that was all done I moved into the Interior. New floor boards which I made from 2x36x1/2 pine strips of all different grains, glued them all together and clamped em. After about A day they were ready to be plained down smooth. Two setups like this was enough to make all my floor. I made some cardboard templates for all the locations for the pedals and levers. After an hour or so of routing out the holes and chamfering everything, they fit right in. Next on the list was the water temp gauge that I never did get around to installing. So I figured I would try to hide it. I took off the right water pipe and drilled a hole on the inside face of it welded in a simple pipe bung , installed the mechanical sender and it was perfect . I was worried before because it felt hot to touch. Well I ran it for 20 mins at 2000 rpms in the garage with no air movement other than the little fan on the engine and it warmed up to 170 and was good from there. One other concern was the oil supply to the charger. I'm not sure why Its still on the back of my mind. I cracked all the supply lines loose and they seem sufficient . I cracked the return line loose also , same thing. Sufficient oil volume. Maybe I'm over thinking it due to its rarity, and how I don't wanna hurt it. My new/ different throttle linkage came yesterday also.I am waiting on my vintage carb spacer w/ vaccum port. So I wanna hold off till the carbs are at correct heights. Same goes for gauge pod for under the dash. That will make it nice for both gauges . I am also trying to figure out what to do about a light switch since the factory a column is no longer in use. Any suggestions? Here are a few pics. I plasma cut and bent the throttle cable brackets and return spring bracket. I also had to take the chrome gas pedal lever and bend it to offset 1 inch for clearance. Everything came out well and looks like it will work great ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1370868981.976627.jpg
