When you look at it take a look at the ***le as well. If the guy is calling it a 32 who knows what the ***le situation is like! Could be a can of worms depending on how Arizona does things.
You've been given a lot of good advice by people who know what they are taking about. At the bare minimum (from looking at the pictures) I'd have to get $2-3,000 my way to even consider a trade. Like most things in life all of the advice in the world won't mean a thing unless your going to take it. I'll simply state......If you do this deal straight up sometime before winter you'll be coming on here with a statement similar to..........."I wish I had taken your advice, the reality of owning this coupe was no where near what I thought it would be. I'd like to have the wagon back" Frank
I have no idea what you want , But to say you don't want to build one from scratch ? Well I see that one coming all the way apart . But that's from pics. Go take a look and take someone who knows model A s
Yes take a really good look, and take someone who's familiar with hotrods in general & A's in particular if you can. All that said, if it can be made right without too much pain & $$, maybe it will work out for you. Nothing against your 56, I like it alot, but A coupes are a different level in most peoples eyes, so I can understand the temptation.
Even though yours is a 4 door wagon stills looks to be worth more than that coupe...and whats with with the pic when its yellow ? hood does even come close to fitting looks way short of bottom of cowl ???
Dude, that coupe will need to be taken completely apart befor e you can have something you can live with. From the two photo's you posted I would run a mile. You're wagon looks cool, straight and useable. You'll get a decent price for it and I've seen a ton of A's for really reasonable cash that are running and driving cars. Like some else suggested. Put it up for trade first? I would bet there are a **** ton of guys out there who bought into the hot rod image and then found out the car is too small, too loud, can't fit the kids in, wife doesn't like it, scares the **** out of them etc etc. I would say your wagon would be a very tempting trade for that guy.
There's something weird with that coupe and trying to put my finger on it. It almost looks like a section was added thru the doors. Sort of chop off the top to make the windows smaller and add back some height to the bottom. The chop looks more drastic than it really is. The running boards and fenders appear off. The engine is way too low compared to the cowl The doors visually appear to narrow. But the hood by itself hood looks correct but doesn't fit the cowl.
What are you guys talking about. He has a plain moredoor wagon and going to trade it for a RARE early 32 deuce coupe, with a factory chop with a rare v6 and mustang II frontend...... I'd keep the wagon too........And I'm a Model A Coupe guy.................Just by looking at the A coupe, it looks like it's a bunch of problems. If you realy want to trade definatly drive the A first, see how it rides and handles going down the road. Check all the suspension and frame welding while on a rack if possible. I've seen alot of ******ed up **** in my search for Model A's. Also check the doors and lower panels for bondo. Make sure there isn't a wiring mess under the dash. Make sure everything works from the stoplights to the wipers. Good Luck
Man I gotta ask... how have you been here eight years and can't tell an A from a Deuce?? I understand the desire to get into an early Ford. I just don't think that is the one. Regardless of what it would take to get into it, that car needs everything to be 'right.' Everything fits funny, it has a weird drivetrain, and it has a weird suspension. If you really like Hamb style hot rods, don't get a car that needs literally everything to be changed out to make you happy. Keep hunting, the right car wiil come along. If you're set on checking it out in person, bring your critical eye and consider all the time, effort, and money needed to make it what you want. Good luck.
Agreed, take a lot of photos and come back here before you commit,,it gonna cost as much to fix everything that isn't right than to start from scratch. HRP
I agree with this, something just isnt right. A few things I noticed that should be checked. -Drip rails are messed up, looks like they are cut behind the door? -Missing middle door hinge -Hood sides look too short -Rear end looks too wide These are a few things I noticed in 2 very blurry pictures. I'd be very cautious on this one. If the guy is advertising this as a 32, what else is he lying about? Personally, I wouldnt even think about trading your 56 for that!
you people are all on crack. that photo is way to poor to try and put a value or ***ess the quality on that A. could just as easliy be a well built car with some poor choices like MII, tires too big and the V6. funny thing here, once a thread gets rolling in a certain direction it seems to keep going in that direction. people seem to base thier opinions on the opinions previously posted.
I like it but it's your money, 56 Chevy's don't light much of a fire for me. I traded a 57 Chev Bel Aire hardtop with a 300 horse 327 with a hurst shifted three speed that ran but needed brakes for a 38 Chevy Coupe basket case, in retrospect he screwed me but that was the mid 70's, old hot rods are way cooler in my eye than a long roof. I still have the 38. I paid $165 for the 57, are any of you crying like a baby yet
just sayin', you gotta go look. I'm working on a 51 chevy right now that looked great in pictures, but was built by bondo bob and his booger welder. pictures are just a general idea of what's going on when talking about a seriously modified car.
Well OK, even if the "duece" is better than pictured, unless you're 5ft 5 in or shorter you can't see out of the thing. I like your 56 way more and think you could find a much better "hot rod" by being a bit patient.
Here is a quote from one of your earlier posts, I don't have the time, space, money or ability to build one from scratch but I could turn this one into something cool.....maybe. That Model A is going to take all of the above and you will most likely get discouraged and either sell or abandon the project. Sell the wagon and buy a nice model a that doesn't need so much work.
I believe the car was done sometime ago. I am not going to say it is nice or it is **** with just the pics I have received so far. Waiting on more and I am going to go look at it. I am NEVER going to get the perfect Model A for my wagon. No matter what, I think my wagon is worth a great deal less than one that is all done. But, one in this condition (***uming it is not a total piece of **** in person), I think the value may be close enough that it may be an alright deal, possibly. Only way to know for sure is to lay my two eyes on it in person. But, if it is a heap in person, it will be a cool day road trip....grab some lunch and a beer and it will still be a decent day.
Here is another question for you guys. Now, I may get slammed for this but I hope not. No, I am not really knowledgeable about Hot Rods. Never built one, never REALLY been around them. Always loved them. Now, here is an ad in the cl***ifieds http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=799751 Asking $4500. Is it worth it?? Probably. But I don't have the ability to build one like this. If the Model A that I am looking at runs, drives, etc....What is the value of it with the work it needs? At least you can have some fun in it and when time, money and the help of some friends, fix things on it. While a lot of you guys were building cars from an early age, I was playing guitar in bands trying to be a rock star (which worked out well, can't you see.....), in hind site, I wish I was building like you guys.
Looks like an interesting start. What kind of rear end ? For my taste, the V6 isn't enough, unless you're lookin for mileage. Even then, if you decided to do, "go fast", parts are more bucks than a small block chevy, or ford. You say it's a '32, but it looks to have a model "A" radiator shell. The top chop looks good, from what I see. Good luck
Well, you've got two bad pictures taken from a distance. That chop is a little radical for my taste. How tall are you? A Mustang II and a V6 puts it in street rod country. Nothing wrong with that, it's a matter of taste. My taste won't allow me to like a modern suspension in an early hot rod. You're trading lots of room for a tuna can. I like small hot rods, but do you? Are you willing to drive hunched over? How tall are you? I like hot rods and I like to tinker with mine. You stated you don't have time, space, ability and money to build one from scratch, but that car will require all those things. My advise would be to check the reasons why you want a hot rod. If you really wanted one, you'd have one already. If you're doing it for a change, cool. But are you ready for what the change will be. A hot rod takes a lot of forgiveness. I put up with some limitations because I really love my T. Are you really into hot rods? Enough to give up the pleasures of a bigger car? Lastly, take someone who knows what to look for in an older car. First red flag.... that is NOT a deuce. If it was, the guy would be asking for your car AND some money.
