From what I understand in 55 only the Montclair had the factory chop and in 56 both the Montclair and Monterey were chopped. I have a 55 Montclair if anybody needs some measurements.
I bought the car shown in post 56. My short term list is: Drive it Make 00 gauge battery cables Drive it Install the included carpet kit Drive it Start testing paint layer(s) removal. Car has thick coat of brush paint. At the least, I see getting the top back to one color and the rest smoothed and polished. Drive it And I am thinking 2" blocks in the back This is really a solid rust free car and great to drive. I love the 292, 3 speed combo.
hi there 1964CS ...that Merc looks like a pretty good car! Do you mind me borrowing one of your pics from your 1st post of it (outside the barn),and using it on the photoshop thread? I've got a couple of ideas I'd like to see tried out if poss..
Boy this pic brings back memories. My best friend in high school(circa 1968) had one like this same color interior etc. He called it big "M" . It was a great car with a great sounding Y block in it. Seems like he put a 312 out of a 57 ford in it? he stock interior looked like custom black and yellow tuck and roll.
I've started my 55 Merc project so I have a lot of spare parts, complete 292 w/ trans, front Spindles and drums, rearend and all ducting.
In 1955, the Ford Victoria had the same roofline as the Mercury Monterey; only the Crown Victoria had the Montclair roofline. In 1956, all Ford Victorias had the Montclair roofline.
I am new to this site, and just wanted to show my latest ride . A 56 mercury Montclair that I bought from my brother, he is more into muscle cars, poor guy. Its a decent car but it needs some interior chrome and dash chrome .Connie kit should be here by the weekend, and maybe 2inch lowering blocks next. More cruising first though.
Bill.....Wrong year.....This is what we're talikng about....or should be....Taken at the Meltdown Drags yesterday. Awesome, Traditional '56 Mercury.......Outside the HAMB box, but "in there"....Perfection in every way........Centurion9
If you love them enough to appreciate a four-door, there is one around here that is seeking a home-not mine, but along the road in my neighborhood.
Holy spit Rob Six- that is a beauty! I really dig the color too. If you want to drop the nose a couple of inches, look up the Ford Aerostar spring conversion. They pop right in and are under 100 bucks. I got a 2.5 inch drop on my '53 Customline and it handled a lot better too. Also, go join the 52- 58 Ford (and Merc) Owner's Social Group- over 1000 strong and some great folks.
Way Cool.... And I hope you find one like your Grandpas !! I remember those days very well, and they were totally awesome ...
I was at a local car show and there was two stock 55 Merc 2dr hardtops parked together, one a Monterey and the other a Montclair. Not only the roofs were different but the complete tail light assembly is different! It is amazing that the manufacturers would change so many parts on a body back then! ROY.
