The reason I ask is: In my COE, I have my radio mounted in the overhead console. I am thinking of moving it into the dash and putting a CB or something overhead. If I could find a radio with a DVD slide out screen that drops down (all I've seen slide out and lift up), I would leave the radio in the overhead.

If you are using them simply to avoid something then you should also know not many listen to 27mhz. They make for a great group travel comms these days.

Before you get to advanced with the idea check the legality of a screen the driver can see. Here the only screen you can legaly see is that of a GPS unit.
DVD systems the driver is not legaly allowed to see.

Yes I know about the driver not watching... I was going to set something up for the passenger only.

Where I live, CB's are very much in use. There's no cell towers up here that can get cellphone service into the deeper areas, and the loggers still need to talk to each other.

    Quite the opposite!!
I do "A LOT" of towing. Having a UHF helps get the Truckies around me safely & on their way. It helps to keep a track on hold ups, accidents to avoid etc.
As I know you are alluding to avoiding "blue cars" That just ain't me!!!
If ya don't do anything wrong, then there is nothing to "avoid!!"

CB's are an important part of COE's/ Trucking so I think this subject is reliant.

    Thanks for posting!!:D:D

  11. I don't know if a video screen in the drivers vision is legal or not, but it sure as hell should be illegal! I can't think of a need for one. I may be different than most, but cell phone off, radio off, no CB, No nothin', when I drive I don't want any distractions at all.

PS, when my wife wants to use her laptop I make her sit in the back seat, (in the daily driver)

Closer to the North shore, but still no cell service at my house unless I use a booster, such as the Wilson Sleek, that I have.

Unfortunately, no I won't be. I'll just have to wait til the Fall classic.

That is what I was talking about avoiding the bigger rigs on the road. Being able to be polite to other travelers with Caravans etc. I was not alluding to the Highway Patrol boys.

You would still be surprised how many run 27mhg for group (Truckies and Grey Nomads - Caravaners) communication and then UHF for highway use.

    I would be :eek::eek:
I don't know many who use them anymore.
I ran both CB's for a while, but that was years ago. bviously you travel in a known group who still uses the 27meg, so they would be useful then.
I have heard "hambers" (excuse that term here) as in the short wave radio boys, use 27 meg for local stuff!

Oh! YES they Do!! (for local communication I said!!)
Short wave is totally different to 27meg, they just use it basically for "line of sight"
(I didn't even bother to look at your link, that's cause I'm am old "Ham" guy form years ago!!)

Here we have 40 Channels 27mhz and now 80 Channels UHF and it would be over 30 years since I have seen a 23 channel set.

Would have to be a Commer. They would have been popular as a farm grain truck back in the day. I wonder if it had the old Commer knocker Diesel ?
I hope we see a photo of the chassis.

Oh man! Now that's some beautiful stuff there. I could find so much to do with any of them. Why can't they be closer to the east coast? Why? Why?
