Bill, I can't get the link to work. FYI, I never heard of a Commer. Guess I'n not to old to learn something new.

  3. Hi Mike
I just clicked on the above link and it worked for me.

I have to agree as I can not understand how a pickup bed can work with a sleeper cabin.

No you do not. A truck with a sleeper cabin and a pickup bed just do not work. It just looks wrong. It is all out of proportion. I suppose you could also say it does not look traditional.

Take off the pickup bed and the rear running boards on that COE and it would appeal to many much more.

    Those Commers sound great too.

Although not a coe, I wouldn't mine having a Scamell.

  15. Get out your tape measure and have at it! A lot of questions and problems pop up with the steering. Get a steering box that has the steering shaft sticking nearly straight up! (17 u-joints ain't cool) Most seem to want to use a Chev chassis, don't know why as there always seems to be a lot of modifying. (and gnashing of teeth). I would start with a pencil and paper, then progress to some rectangular tubing (scratch build it) If you don't have the capabilities required to do a scratch built frame, how can you successfully modify something to work safely.
I may sound harsh, but I believe it is the truth.

  16. When I saw it I didn't even get to the box, the flames would gag a maggot!

I would use as much of the 87 if it was me.

That does not sound like a Commer Engine.
    This is a Commer engine.

Now that as a crewcab looks good and like it came from the factory.

As I said all in the proportions.

Her are a couple of my 47. Chopped, Stretched, It is going through somewhat of a face lift, tummy tuck, rebirth so to speak, It has been sitting for 7 years not cranked with a 58 MGA strapped on here back until about 2 months ago when the owner finally called me back after a year of leaving notes on his door...Been through the brakes, fuel, all hoses, belts and wiring so far, Got my tall lokar shifter mounted this week and will finish it up tomorrow, I will get the interior done next then trash the flat bed and put a 46 bed and rear fenders on it..
Does anyone know Tom ? in Pubelo Co, he built this truck in early 2000 and sold it to the guy I got it from in 03..the last picture was taken in 01 just after Tom finished the build..

    maybe all ford. F350 - F550 PSD?
maybe medium duty F650-F750 - but I think the front axle might be too wide
would love to have a monstrous DT466
gotta get it in the wings and tape measure and head scratch

I have broken that wing mount a few times now due to down force at highway speeds. So it shows it works and I have had to make it stronger. Has also made a difference towing trailers. Mind you my truck is not a COE so I am not posting it here. The wing is removable for the 5th wheel but as yet I have no 5th wheeler style trailer to tow.

Me too. The****mins makes for a traditional rig.
